Kenya has made a national holiday based on the AMERICAN PRESIDENT??????

Does anyone find that disconcerting???

Now those with the 'baptismal name' mohammed must tolerate those without that name just as those without the baptismal name mohammed
must tolerate those with it......there is more in the making than meets the eye......

it is harder to split an atom than the mind of man....but it is easier to stablize an atom than the mind of man

Quoted Text
You may know that all atoms are made of protons (which have a positive electrical charge), neutrons (which have no electrical charge) and electrons (which have a negative electrical charge). The electrons are very small items which zip around the outskirts of the atom; but at the center is a very heavy object, the nucleus, which contains only protons and neutrons. Since the protons all have like charges, they repel each other and want to fly apart; but if neutrons are thrown into the mix, the atomic nucleus can be stabilized. The stabilizing effect is called the strong nuclear force, and can only operate over very short distances (between neighboring protons or neutrons).

Small atoms typically have about the same number of protons and neutrons, but as atoms get larger, their nucleii need more neutrons to hold the protons together. For example, while carbon has 6 protons and 6 neutrons, iron (with 26 protons) needs 30 neutrons. Lead, which is the largest stable nucleus (one that won't fall apart by itself), has 82 protons and 125 neutrons.

Kenya has declared Thursday a public holiday to celebrate the election of Barack Obama to the US presidency.

Mr Obama's father was from Kenya and his victory has prompted jubilation across the country.

"We the Kenyan people are immensely proud of your Kenyan roots," President Mwai Kibaki said.

The BBC's Juliet Njeri says Mr Obama's step-grandmother was seen dancing and cheering jubilantly outside her house after the results were declared.

She says Mr Obama's family stayed up all night in the western Kenyan village of Kogelo watching the election count, and they are now preparing for a big party.   Your victory has demonstrated that no person... should not dare to dream of wanting to change the world for a better place

Nelson Mandela

Jubilation at Obama home

African leaders from South Africa to Somalia have sent their congratulations to the US president-elect.

Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first black president, welcomed Mr Obama's victory as a sign of hope for everyone.

"Your victory has demonstrated that no person anywhere in the world should not dare to dream of wanting to change the world for a better place," he said in a letter of congratulations.

Unifying

In Kisumu city, near the Obamas' home village, there is a carnival atmosphere and people have poured onto the streets singing Mr Obama's praises, our reporter says.
Kogelo residents speak of their joy over Barack Obama's victory

Political leaders are expected to join massive celebrations planned in the city, which considers Mr Obama their chosen son, she says.

In January, Kisumu was the scene of running battles between members of the public and police after riots broke out over the Kenya's contested elections.

But correspondents say the US election seems to be a unifying moment for the country, with people reported to be saying that Mr Obama's victory is a victory for all Kenyans.

In the capital, crowds were seen singing and dancing, waving branches and carrying posters of Mr Obama along Ngong Road, one of Nairobi's major highways.

"Your victory is not only an inspiration to millions of people all over the world, but it has special resonance with us here in Kenya," Mr Kibaki said.

I am deeply sorry and worried that the color of his skin made a difference in the outcome of the election for the man who will govern the greatest country on earth.  It should not have mattered either way.

the only thing I find disconcerting is this anti-black talk on the board here by some posters --- so what if kneya named a holiday after him ... we should ourselves should remember this day for what happened -- that a man of color was elected, despite the vicious smears directed at him -- the allegations he is a muslim [as if that is evil in itself] that his middle name is hussein [like that means he is bad] that his father did this or that.

judge the man by what he does, not by what the negative ads think he will do.

Hey, you boys and girls have to lighten up here. You are both beginning to sound like our friend sal. For me personally....there were many many reasons for me to not vote for obama and NONE of them would be because of his skin color.

Unfortunately....in some social circles, if  you didn't vote for obama....you were considered racist! Sadly, some of that is true. But not in ALL cases.

the miracle happened -=- a black man won the presidency. it is a great day for this country

I have no problem with A black man becoming President.  I have a problem with THAT black man becoming President.  It's all about the issues.  I don't know how I can afford to get through the next 4 years...unless the federal government pays off my mortgage, gives me free gas and groceries, and finally, decides to send along some extra spending money at some point...considering they're looking at taking my job away eventually.

My point exactly----It's OUR holiday.......as for the name hussein/mohammed etc.....it was meant as useful in future diplomacy

Exactly, and now that he is our President lets see what he does.  He is definately starting out with high marks and he is going to have a difficult time filling the expectations of his followers.

What I meant before is that it is too bad a distinction is made whether that distinction is based on color, race, gender or religion.  As long as there is a distinction made there will always be a distinction.  I'm probably not coming across right.

Every good communist like you insinuates racism at the earliest opportunity. I am sick of being tried by the media, being tried by the government-bureaucratic complex, being tried by the educational system and now being tried by my neighbor SIMPLY BECAUSE I won't embrace a candidate or his socialists views. Screw you you piece of verminous bolshevik filth.
