ROTTERDAM — Data collectors from both the town assessor’s office and a private appraisal fi rm will be visiting random properties throughout June. Assesor Craig Surprise said the town data collectors will be operating independently and separate from the ones working with Emminger, Hyatt, Newton & Pigeon Inc., the Buffalo-based company hired to determine the accuracy of information recorded during the reassessment last year. He said the town data collectors will be visiting about 2,000 properties between now and October. “You should look at a certain number of properties each year,“ he said. “It’s better to do it now in the warmer weather than the winter.” Surprise said the private appraisal firm should conclude the work by the end of the month. Workers from both the town and the appraisal company will have identification. Residents are urged to contact the assessors office at 355-7575.

Had a chat with some fellas at the bagel shop over coffee-Whatever happened- was there an investigation of Caroline Lazzari since Jasenski and Godlewski put out that flyer telling us all how she had Tommasone lower her taxes through very corrupt means. Did she get arrested yet? And how about Tommasone? Did he get arrested for it, or was it through Johnny Boy Macjecka? MAybe Johnny boy goes to jail on this one? I am speculating here?
Or does she have the right to sue on this one? Because it did she was corrupt and such, and then also mentioned her husband. So maybe he has to be the one to sue?

I guess that what Sal is saying is that Godlewski and Jasenski lied. And I only say that because if it were absolutely true, the dems would have been all over this like flies on you know what. UNLESS...they, dems and reps have benefited by a lowered tax assessment somewhere down the line themselves. Or since Lazzari lost the election, they won the battle whether it was lies or truth.

Talk about errors, well, I don't know. Anyone have any ideas? Co worker and I were talking. COworker lives on one of those streets off Hamburg, near Carmen firehouse area. There is a house in that "development," he was looking at all the assessments last year. The house he mentioned to me is the highest assessment in the area, just over $200,000. The owner put a huge addition above the garage two years ago which raised the assessment big time. But the owner pays the least taxes, he says it's a younger owner, must have vascular problems because of bandages on his legs. The owner has the financial wherewithal to put the big addition on, but qualities for the 50% low income tax exemption. Low income, can you believe that. Now my co-worker said the guy is having a huge dormer put on in the back of the house in the upstairs. Given that these changes probably cost $50,000 at least, how can a person who is low income afford that?

I'm still waiting for the results of the spot check of the reval done by GAR so we can all see how bad/good a job the town got because we sure paid enough money for it.
Its is the duty of all of us who have been paying our taxes year after year to turn in those we know or suspect are not on the roles. They will be checked out and no harm done if they have been paying.

I couldn't agree more. However, I have sent pictures and proof in of a house that is under-assessed and nothing has been done. I even brought it to the attention of the GAR representative who actually agreed with me. But nothing was done. Perhaps it is due to the position of one person who lives in the house...I really don't know why.

I still dont understand the re-val and everyone being upset....are there cheats and snakes in every town---you betcha.....those who think they are priviledged....too bad for them.....but, to have a high value is GOOD.....however, thanks to the 'other' liars and cheats with the subprime and greed we are falling......everyone is always looking for that 'little something extra for free'----if ya ask me,,,,that attitude is NO DIFFERENT THAN SITTING AROUND WAITING FOR THE GOVERNMENT CHECK-----FOR FREE.......
