I'm worried about hate radio. It could be losing its influence.
I'm not sure I want to live in a country where people can disagree without hating. I mean, debate without hate is so, I don't know, so lily-livered, so PBS. Of course, the maestros of hate radio -- the Michael Savages, the Glenn Becks, the Big Kahuna of Hate his own self, Rush Limbaugh -- have only themselves to blame for their predicament. In the race for the Republican presidential nomination, they put all their hate in one basket and lost big time. You would think they would have been savvy enough to hedge their hate, just in case it became necessary to switch hatreds in midstream. But they weren't. The obvious thing for Rush and his supporting cast to do would be to back the presumptive GOP nominee, John McCain. That, however, is not as easy as it sounds. What got McCain condemned to hate radio hell is his position on illegal immigration. In hate radio's view, McCain doesn't hate the 12 million or so illegals in this country enough to be a real conservative, not to mention American. So, for the mullahs of the microphones to start supporting McCain, they would have to ease up on their hatred of illegal immigrants, and that's just not going to happen. Life's too short. Hate radio must not be allowed to fall silent. If hate radio loses its voice, where will listeners go for their daily infusion of vitriol, "Prairie Home Companion?" If hate radio fades to static, where will we turn for the half truth? Distortion? Mean-spirited humor? Here is my suggestion: I think all the hate-radio jocks, along with all the TV talking-head haters, should turn on each other. Seriously, these people are not only accomplished haters but are also easy to hate. We're not just talking Limbaugh and Savage here, we're also looking at the likes of Bill O'Reilly, Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity and the undisputed Queen of All Hate, Ann Coulter. This group would push each other to new levels of viciousness, which would be very entertaining, which is the point of hate media, right? The hatefest would attract not only the regular hate-radio audience but people from the other end of the political spectrum, who would tune in to see people they hate hate each other. Like I said, I'm concerned about hate radio. I hope this helps. Jim Shea writes The Hartford Courant.
A poll taken of a cross section of Americans found that 72% of the population didn't want to provide amnesty to illegal aliens nor to let them into this country without following the rules set down to become a citizen. We the people can't afford the drain on our welfare, health care, and Social Security system that the illegal aliens create.

Dude- Its funny how you zeroed in on the ONE SENTENCE- you know the one you hate- you know the isssue that annoys the living daylights out of you-
Well then my dear shadow, read the new thread about this 'Poverty Global Act'. When I read it, I get the impression that Obama plans to implement it.
And staying on topic, it amazes me how they now call it 'hate radio'. Nonsense! In a more kinder time, it was called 'conservative talk radio'. I guess that unless you are a liberal dem, anything that comes from your mouth is 'hateful'. NOT 'truthful, opinionated, informative, another view'....Nope...the media choses to use the word 'hateful'. Amazing, just amazing!

What would they have called Al Franken's station when he spewed hate about the Reps and Conservatives, talk radio? I agree Bumble, Obama's plan for solving the worlds poverty problem is frightening and just where does he think all the money to fund that program is going to come from. I think I heard that he's going to tax the rich, anyone who makes over $200,000, up to 50% of their income, interest, and death benefit to fund it. The rich might just move out of this country and take their money with them and I for one wouldn't blame them.

Most who have made " money " and are making money here will continue to do so HERE - Their CPA S and CFO' S will work out any new proposed tax laws- because they can.
I am in a business that thrives here- in America it would not work in South America-
As far as mean spirited radio host go- they have always been around but I suspect they like other forms of entertainment have become more extreame- Weather it be sports - music or whatever- Life in general has been bumped up a notch or two- Talk shows are pumped up and amped- steroid rage ?
It is the wealthiest in this country that keep the economy moving. Ya know, the ones that don't look at a price tag when they purchase it. They want it...they buy it. I personally know people who make a few hundred thousand a year and pay out tens of thousands in income tax. And that doesn't include the sales tax on those big ticket items. The ones I know are also very very generous people. Some own their own companies and also employ many. So they better leave the wealthy alone if they want the economy to stay afloat.
Back on topic....Does 'hate radio' include Howard 'shock jock' Stern?

I would not limit mean spirited talk radio to Rush or any other conservative host- Air America- Stern- Imus and even a left-coast Jock called Tom Leykis are just as extreame- in just the way- as I mentioned extreame sports have become extreamly extreame- BASE jumping etc. Reality shows.
Political Jocks get attention because they rant about things that could possibly matter. Its easy for them to become beligerant on the air- and on top of that they confuse moral and ethical issues with politics-
