Lawmaker picks Albany over Washington

Susan Savage is now closer to the Capitol, just not the one many suspected.
     
The day after the Democratic chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature announced she wouldn't run for Mike McNulty's seat in Congress Sunday, she started a $100,000 job with the state in Albany.
But Savage says her new position with the Office of Real Property Services has nothing to do with her decision to not enter a Democratic field potentially more crowded than Jack's during the state Legislature's session.
Rather, she said, it was linked to the death of her father, Chuck, on Jan. 4.
Savage, 46, said the state contacted her in November about the intergovernmental relations post, but discussions about it didn't commence until she opted out of the race for the 21st Congressional District seat held for 10 terms by the Democrat from Green Island. "They contacted me and said they're looking for someone with experience in local government," said Savage, who has been in the County Legislature for 10 years and worked in government relations for the Medical Society of New York.
Savage's new job is to help municipalities apply for grants through the Real Property Services Office. She won't, however, be working with any governments in Schenectady County.

This shows a high conflict of interests and people should come out, ready to speak up to ask that Ms. Savage either resign her seat from the County Legislature or turn down the job that she has just received.  If ANY person who is sitting on the board is unable to request funding from anywhere...ESPECIALLY WHEN THAT IS THEIR ONE JOB...I would expect that they would be expected to step down.

Well, they all do it--from the top down....NYRA, Mr.Bruno, Mr.Silver, Mr.Spitzer....law offices that deal with labor disputes, arbitors, PBA, Teachers Union, Thruway Authority,NYS Lottery etc etc........

AND THEY WONDER WHERE THE CONFIDENCE IS?????? the feed bag is always open,,,,but a relative few have access and control over it......equality and just scales dont exist....socialism is death of the human mind....

.Suzie needs to give up her seat on the county legislature. Take the $100,000 job and say good bye. Or will she double dip into the taxpayers pocket and then we can pay for BOTH of her public sector jobs with benefits?

The monthly meeting of the Schenectady County Legislature is tonight beginning at 7 pm.  Regrettably, I am unable to attend due to a prior commitment.  If any wish to comment on Ms. Savage's perceived conflict of interest, call for her resignation as Legislative Chair, or speak about any other issues pertaining to Schenectady County, there is privilege of the floor early in the meeting (typically after the ceremonial (i.e., honorary) resolutions are addressed).  On the agenda tonight is discussion and the vote on proposed appointments to the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority.  For those of you living in Rotterdam, the candidate representative is Patrick J. Saccocio.  Conventional thinking is that he may be rejected by a vote along political lines.  There are many other political appointments being discussed and voted on during tonights meeting.  Many of these appointments are of Democratic political operatives.  Defeated District IV candidate for Schenectady County Legislature Robert Godlewski is being considered for several government appointments.

I actually attended the Rotterdam Town Board meeting with my daughter tonight.  At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. Tommasone announced that Mr. Saccocio's appointment had been denied (I'm guessing on perceived conflict of interest concerns? and that the Town would likely be taking legal action against the county immediately.  The Town of Rotterdam has been without a representative for several months already as it is.  Mr. Tommasone correctly points out that it creates a situation where you have taxation without representation.  It sounds like it's about to get interesting.

I think that it's time for another tea party.

I mentioned Ms. Savage's new job during the public priveledge of the floor tonight.  At that time, I was summarily dismissed and told that she would talk to me later, like a scolded child while company is around.  Now, I didn't bring my information with me and I wasn't totally prepared to speak on the topic, and I said that when I started.  I asked Ms. Savage about the fact and she said that she would talk to me after the meeting.  I stayed after the meeting and waited in the meeting room until after Ms. Savage went into the back room where the Democratic Majority usually meets.  Once she had progressed into there, I went out of the meeting room and waited for a few minutes out in the foyer by the elevators.  She stayed in the room, as close to the door as possible without coming out to talk to me about it.  Next county meeting I will be bringing a copy of the article with me and requesting her stance on what she is going to do, choosing between her position on the board and her new state job.

Does it really surprise you that she didn't come back out? It is the 'secret society".

I believe that I read in the newspaper that Patrick Saccocio's nomination was approved despite Chairperson Savage voting against the candiate.

METROPLEX MEMBERS

In other business, the Legislature approved five appointments to the 11-member Metroplex Development Authority board.

Named to five-year terms were Sharon Jordan, the selection of Mayor Brian U. Stratton; William Chapman, the selection of Niskayuna Supervisor Joe Landry; Edward Capovani, the selection of Glenville Supervisor Frank Quinn; Patrick Saccocio, the selection of Rotterdam Supervisor Steve Tommasone; and Robert Wall, the joint selection of the supervisors of Princetown and Duanesburg.

The appointments were unanimous, except for Saccocio’s. Savage voted against his appointment, saying “there could be an appearance his membership could benefit himself personally or his business.”

Either Mr. Tommasone or the Daily Gazette reporter Michael Lamendola is misinformed.

Wasn't the town meeting and the county meeting at the same time? I'm just asking since I wondered how Mr. Tommasone would have obtained that information so quickly.

The Town Board was on the phone b4 and after their meeting last night trying to find out the results of the County Board meeting.

Yes, all the people on the board for the Metroplex were voted unanimously to approve, except for Mr. Saccocio, who was unanimous, except for Ms. Savage's no vote.
