Effective Thursday, the Rite-Aid in the Mont Pleasant business district moves the city operation to the chain's Rotterdam store at Altamont Avenue and Crane Street.

The business strip has lost most of its venerable firms. Marcella's Appliances, Combo Fish Fry, Mont Pleasant Bakery and Trustco Bank are the last remaining longtime businesses.

John Marcella, whose store is adjacent to the Rite-Aid, said the business district was plagued with crime and various quality-of-life issues, including graffiti on his building and delivery trucks.
