Just thought if there's events going on that people would like to invite others to this Christmas (yes, it's Christmas, not holiday) season, we could have a place to post them. Well, if there's any other type of holiday thing, I guess we could post them here, unless someone wants to start another topic. Anyway, here's the ad.

Village Holiday Celebration
On Sunday, December 2nd, 2007 the CP Railway's Holiday Train of Lights will make a stop in Delanson. This year it will feature musical acts Ennis, Colin Linden and Tracey Brown. The 13 car freight train collects food and money for local food banks. This year, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church will be the recipient of the food collected. The train is decorated with thousands of lights and rumor has it, that Santa will be on board, too. The trains will arrive at ~8:45 p.m. Our Village celebration will begin at 7:00 p.m. (bonfire, "Sweet Cider", vendors and more). Collection bins for toys to be donated to the "Toys for Tots" program, sponsored annually by the US Marine Corps Reserve will be available, as well as bins to collect donated non-perishable foods.
Last year, our celebration was a huge success, thanks to your generosity. This year, we hope to collect even more food for our local food pantry, and more gifts to be donated to our communities most vulnerable members.
This is a beautiful event for anyone who wants or dares to venture out to the west. The train is decorated in thousands of lights and is a magnificent sight. It is attended by people from miles around so come early to ensure a good spot for viewing. You won't be disappointed by the hospitality of the Village of Delanson.
Scotia’s holiday set for weekend SCOTIA — Mohawk Avenue will be transformed this weekend with crafts, music and of course, Santa Claus for the village’s annual Holiday On The Avenue. The festivities kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday with a ceremony to light the landscaped pedestrian island at the intersection of Route 50 and Wallace Street. The Cub Scout Pack Two is sponsoring the event, which will feature a choir. The main festivities will take place on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Mohawk Avenue from Collins Street to Sacandaga Road will be blocked off. Deputy Mayor Joe Rizzo said the local shops will be open and there will be a craft fair. There will be musical entertainment provided by an Elvis impersonator at Scotia Cinema. Choirs will sing along the street. In addition, Radio Disney will have music and characters. The Police Department’s DARE program will be raffling off bicycles. There will also be tours of the Flint House, pony rides and food. The Post Office is giving out free cancellation stamps with the village’s insignia on it. Rizzo said the highlight of the event will be Santa Claus riding on a fire pumper truck. “There’s going to be a lot of activities going on,” he said.

SCHENECTADY Proctors to show film on front of building BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Michael Lamendola at 395-3114 or lamend@dailygazette.com.
Proctors will screen the classic holiday film “It’s a Wonderful Life” outside on the front of a building on Friday, Dec. 21, during the monthly Art Night Schenectady event. But people will only get to hear Clarence the angel earn his wings once, as the movie will have but one showing, starting at 5 p.m. “Weather permitting, we will show it on the front of the building opposite 440 State St.,” said Proctors spokeswoman Kathy Jarvis. Proctors will set up a screen projector opposite the building to display the classic black-andwhite movie on the facade of a building in the 400 block on the north side of State Street. “We are participating as a community service event. It is part of the holiday season. It will be a fun thing for people to wander around, and it will be a unique art experience,” Jarvis said. “We have all sorts of activities; our galleries and exhibits will be open for Art Night.” The movie is one of several attractions slated for Art Night Schenectady, held the third Friday of each month. All events are free. The movie stars James Stewart and Donna Reed and tells the tale of an angel-in-training who helps a compassionate but despairingly frustrated businessman learn what life would have been like if he never existed. At the end of the movie, Clarence the angel earns his wings, signified by the ringing of a bell. This month’s Art Night will also feature: Model trains at the Schenectady Museum & Suits-Bueche Planetarium A photography exhibit exploring the self-perceptions of people of mixed Asian descent and the work of 18 artists expressing the challenges of living with disabilities at Union College Paintings and sculptures at Proctors Food and special gifts for the holidays. The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. along Jay Street, Union Street, State Street and Nott Terrace. Mitch Messmore, director of the Capital Region Initiative Supporting the Arts, began Art Night Schenectady in May. The group gives local artists a voice and boosts the arts, he said. It has organized similar events in Albany and Troy. The first Schenectady event featured 40 artists and drew several hundred people. It has since expanded considerably.
