You go girl! And like I mentioned in other posts, there have been homes that were never reassessed through this reval process. I would think that Mr. Macejka would have brought that to light and addressed it. Wasn't that his job? NOT NO MORE!

This Towns tax rate is what is killing it.....Bought my house two 1/2 years ago...taxes went from 5800 to over 8000. appraisal is 5,000 higher than I paid ( fair ) Bank appraised when I purchased......its going to be tough to get out ....who in there right mind would live here and pay those kind of taxes. Poor people in Shalmont...even worse..

I feel your pain Biaggio and I live in the Schalmont school district. The reval was supposed to help us and put us on a level playing field. It was supposed to be a fair appraisal of every house in the town so that everyone was paying their fair share of taxes. It didn't turn out the way we were told and now we're stuck with the high taxes and the home values have dropped a lot since the reval was done and there's no way to correct the problem. We're all in the same boat like it or not.

My mom has a small house on Curry Road. She has not received her tax bill yet. But her neighbor got hers and it was $1000 higher than all of her previous tax bills. Their houses are similar. She is going to go to our new assessor to dispute it. I'll just have to wait until my mom's comes in to see what hers is.

A question for biaggio. Have you thought of going to the new assessor to dispute your taxes? Maybe he could do something for you.

It is the cost of keeping us "off the 'hill'"....but, if cheap is what we want cheap is what we shall get......I agree that not much AT ALL, is being done for Hamburg street(where are our sewers), but if the houses/taxes are valued high, you like where you live, and like your neighbors ,then it is like a banner saying "we like it and we pay for it. If you come to live here, you too will have to 'keep it up'."

HOWEVER, we reap what we sow.....we have sown the seeds of higher taxes----WHAT ARE WE REAPING YOU ELECTED OFFICIALS????????? DONT TALK ABOUT PAVED ROADS......

If you look at Rotterdam's 2008 tentative budget, preliminary budget, and the adopted budget for the Assessor's position, you'll notice that the tentative and preliminary the annual salary was $59,725.  In the 08' Adopted budget the salary is $64,725.  It looks like Mr. Surprise needed an extra $5000 to except the Rotterdam position.  What isn't known is whether Mr. Surprise received the extra $5000 because he's a republican crony, or his credentials merit the extra money.  If you look further back you will learn that the Assessor position salary payed $54,425 in 2006, and now Mr. Surprise will earn $64,725 in 2008.  A $10,000+ increase in just 2 year!  Or a 16% pay increase over a two year period!

See for yourselves.

Excellent point Cicero. Now if only the MAJORITY of the people in Rotterdam would care! I guess that the people have become so complacent that it would take a proposed Walmart super center to emerge to get their attention. Cause they clearly don't care about anything else.

Well Kevin, now that all who post and lurk on this site have read about this massive increase can ALL go to the town board meeting and ask.
(fat chance of that happening, huh?)
