Teaching children about sex in school is asking for trouble
The Trojan Horse was disguised as a gift from the goddess Athena but was in fact filled with Athenian soldiers bent on the destruction of Troy. I use this example to decry the same distortions used by the new buzz phrase of comprehensive sex education. Between 1960 and 1991, sexually transmitted diseases increased 245 percent abortions increased 800 percent, illegitimate birthrates increased 457 percent Much of these trends must be laid at the doorsteps of sex education. If you choose to engage in sexual activity, use protection. If that fails, there’s the local abortion mill. It’s fine to tell teens to say no to smoking and drug use but when it comes to sex, abstinence isn’t realistic. Even with advances in contraceptives, “unwanted” pregnancies have increased, the devastating effects of fatherlessness are undeniable abortion has not become “rare.” Sexually transmitted diseases unknown only decades ago are now epidemic; some incurable, some fatal. The teenage years are an exceptionally difficult time as teens learn about independence, responsibility, impulse control and relationships. The sex “experts” hope for damage control in areas of teen pregnancy and disease. If sex is seen as little more than recreation with consequences to be avoided, how will our children later be able to handle the sacrifices involved in raising a child? Advocates for a revolution in sexual ethics have mounted a frontal assault on traditional morality. These promoters of pleasure and freedom work to liberate the world from the bondage of sexual restraint. Their activism has led to the removal of legal restrictions on sexual behavior, popularization of what a generation ago would have deemed pornography is now the norm. Our children deserve better than this. JOANNE CLOUGH Guilderland

Oh for sure! Just check out the Victoria Secret commercials. That is soft porn at it's best. However, the media just calls it advertising. And you can bet that these tv media outlets are making a good buck from them for these ads. No more is it about you, me or morals...it is clearly all about the money! |

Oh, I don't think it's actually treasures....it's more like stimulating 'eye candy'. |
