Bodies donated to science on display at Rochester museum The Associated Press
ROCHESTER — A dozen dead men and women, preserved in various poses, are displayed throughout the gallery, and big crowds are coming by for a close look. Their skin has largely been removed, and deeper layers are cut away to reveal muscles, ligaments or bones. One man is staged to look like a sprinter in motion. Another has his right arm extended straight behind him as if preparing to throw a discus. While the bodies have been impregnated with silicone polymers to prevent decomposition, they look much like unclothed specimens in a morgue except they’re posed on platforms for unobstructed viewing from all angles. They are the highlight of a fourmonth anatomical education exhibition, entitled “Our Body: The Universe Within,” that opens Saturday at the Rochester Museum & Science Center. The museum expects to draw upward of 100,000 visitors for the tour’s third and final stop, which extends to Jan. 1. “There is no odor, it is not eerie, it is not ghastly,” said Marcus Corwin, general counsel for Universe Within Touring Co. “It is actually just breathtaking. It’s a combination of art and science, and you get to see your body like you’ve never seen it before.”
This is by far one of the most rediculous things I have ever heard! I mean really. And I just laughed my a** off when they actually called it ART! Well then if that is art then let's bring out the spray paint and markers and 'paint the town red'! And we'll bring good old Suzie Savage with us!!!!
