No, I think they are just the 'smart' people, leaving us stupid slugs to fend for ourselves!
However, it just amazes me how the entire country knows that people are leaving NYS by the thousands and yet the 'powers to be' in this state don't seem to be alarmed at all! We are the highest taxed state....who the heck would 'choose' to come here? And yet things just continue on and on. Well, I predict that NY will become the first official socialist/welfare state in the country. We are almost there now.

I was told that it is not upstate that supports the city....it is in fact just the opposit....it is the city that supports upstate. I was told that if the vast number of people in the city was not there to pay NYS tax....upstate's taxpayer would be paying a huge amount of taxes. It all has to do with population. And if you take 'all' of upstate...there is no where near enough in population to the city itself!
On the flip side....it is the city, due to the large population, that influences the votes in this state. The city carries the voters weight.

How I look at it is consider the amount on public assistance down in the city. I think that outweighs the amount that they pay in taxes. I don't know. Maybe whoever we vote into the Assembly on July 30th will be able to research and let us know that. Maybe that was part of "the job that isn't done yet," that Tonko just didn't get around to.
The Longest Vacation By SCOTT MOODY August 7, 2007
Recently the Mackinac Center, a think-tank based in Midland, Mich., released a report on the traffic of United Van Lines, a moving company. By this move-out measure, Mackinac found that New York had the sixth-highest rate of out-bound traffic in the country for the first six months of 2007.
Nearly 58% of all UVL traffic in New York was out-bound to other states. While UVL is only one of many moving companies in New York, Mackinac Center scholars have econometrically discovered that UVL data is highly correlated with state-to-state migration patterns. New York policymakers should be very concerned about this most recent revelation since it foretells another year's loss of population to other states.
Unfortunately, this sign of out-migration is nowhere near a one-time fluke. New York has been hemorrhaging people in every year since the U.S. Census Bureau has been keeping tabs on annual domestic migration. Between 1991 and 2006, New York has lost 3,078,898 people to other states, or roughly one person every two minutes and 45 seconds. If domestic migration were the only source of population change, New York would have lost almost five seats in the House of Representatives. Fortunately, immigrants are compensating for about 62% of the outflow.
Clearly, people are voting with their feet. Politicians in Albany and city halls throughout the state should pay close attention to this stampede out of the state. While many factors are responsible for this out-migration, New York's highest in the nation level of taxation stands above them all.
For example, we have all heard of the snowbirds, New Yorkers who move to Florida not only for the sunshine, but also for the 30% drop in taxes. Here is more evidence that I have gathered to show that low-tax states are gaining citizens at the expense of high-tax states. First, consider that, between state fiscal years 1994 and 2004, the 10 lowest-taxed states had an average tax bite of 9.5% of personal income versus 13% for the 10 highest-taxed states. As such, the tax bite of the lowest-taxed states was 27.2% lower than the highest-taxed states. Not surprisingly, the lowest-taxed states enjoyed an overall population growth rate that was higher by 172.1% Â-- 17.5% versus 6.4%.

The politicians in NYS didn't even notice that the millions of people left the state. Their solution was to just raise taxes until they got enough to fund their programs. It doesn't matter that we're all going to end up in the poor house at this rate as long as the state has enough money to fund welfare and free hospitalization so that the politicians don't lose any votes.
While many factors are responsible for this out-migration, New York's highest in the nation level of taxation stands above them all.
The highest taxation in the nation....and for what? And ya know, we can't blame the dems on this one. How many years of Pataki did we have? And clearly he didn't change anything either! We're doomed!!

Like I said before-----it's all the same machine.....it is just a fight who gets the perks and the control.......regardless of party affiliation....
TEA PARTY...TEA PARTY....TEA PARTY....TEA PARTY
Although I think the 'TEA' is spilling out of the housing market........
Driving around the past couple of weeks we have noticed a large amount of homes just left empty.....folks just up and moved...homes left with weeds for lawns....these are not $50,000 homes nor are they new homes they are older homes that were what we did call those median priced homes at $250,000-$300,000......I wonder who went bankrupt or foreclosed????

STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
I must say that althoguh you are right to a point, both Bumble and Senders, I must say that even as a child, I realized that this state was starting to go majorly downhill during the Cuomo administration, and I don't see that we have every truly recovered. Rotterdam was doing horrendously at times when we had the Cuomo/Constantino Connection, but the town has since made major corrections back to the appropriate ways. Hopefully, we can keep them up, and electing someone like Mr. Amedore may be just the beginning, but there's major work to still be done.
I agree BK that Rotterdam has made some changes in the right direction but unless the Town Board can figure out a way to either get grant money or budget money each year to be solely used to improve our infrastructure and put in sewers where they are desperately needed we can't move forward and will be doomed to stagnation.
Agreed. Luckily, there may be some things in the works. As it is, I was at the town board meeting last night, and in the section at the top, right after MOST of the clowns left, there was a report given, Independent Auditor’s Report – 2006. It essentially said that Rotterdam has been doing very well financially and that it was able to build some financial stability. I only hope that they take some of that and start to put it back into the town and to start to make some much needed improvements to many different parts of town.
Historically, the state started to go down hill with Rockefeller! He basically started the ball rolling. Not to mention, he created more public jobs than any other governor. Cuomo just picked up where Rocky left off.

The South Mall Project was Rocky's way of putting people to work and along with it came corruption, over budget on the whole project, and theft. All the buildings down there now are filled with state workers that we pay for. You're right Bumble the state started down the drain with Rocky and it's been downhill ever since.
