House healthcare talks break down in anger
By Jared Allen, Mike Soraghan and Lauren Burke
Posted: 07/24/09 03:27 PM [ET]

House healthcare negotiations dissolved in acrimony on Friday, with Blue Dog Democrats saying they were “lied” to by their Democratic leaders.

In advance of a subsequent press conference called by House leadership, Blue Dog liaison Rep. Dennis Cardoza (D-Calif.) said the healthcare bill should be staying in committee.

"I expect the committee process to proceed," Cardoza said.

The seven Blue Dogs on the Energy and Commerce Committee stormed out of a Friday meeting with their committee chairman, Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), saying Waxman had been negotiating in bad faith over a number of provisions Blue Dogs demanded be changed in the stalled healthcare bill.

“I’ve been lied to,” Blue Dog Coalition Co-Chairman Charlie Melancon (D-La.) said on Friday. “We have not had legitimate negotiations.

SARATOGA SPRINGS
Group rallies for federal health care reform

BY CAITLIN TREMBLAY For The Daily Gazette
Reach Gazette intern Caitlin Tremblay at 374-4141, ext. 4080.

“Honk for health care reform” read the protesters’ signs as they stood on the corner of Broadway and Church Street on Friday.
“America has private health care but not free market health care, and that’s what we want,” Steven Vasquez, the New York state coordinator of Campaign for Liberty, said as he held up his sign.
“We don’t want nationalized health care like what is being proposed. It’s going to lower options and raise costs. We want to remove the restrictions on health care and give people options to find competitive prices. The restrictions like HMOs that Nixon placed in the ’70s need to be removed.”
Since taking office, President Barack Obama has proposed legislation that would reinvent the nation’s health care system.
His plan has been delayed, however, by concerns over increased cost and greater government involvement. Many of these issues were at the forefront of Friday’s protest.
“There are people here from all sorts of liberal political groups,” Vasquez said.
“Nationalizing health care is not a means of reducing the problem of coverage. The problem is high cost. We need a free market of health care to reduce the cost. People should have the option of finding the cheapest coverage available even if it means going to Canada. We shouldn’t be stuck with what our employers are willing to give us.”
Vasquez continued, “By not having health care options and the freedom to choose, our constitutional civil liberties are being taken away.”
The crowd of about a dozen or so nodded their heads in approval after Vasquez finished talking, but none of them would comment further.
The protest, which was described as grass-roots, was held mere feet from the Saratoga Springs offi ce of U.S. Rep. Scott Murphy, D-Glens Falls. The group said they appreciate his support and were stationed outside his office to ask him not to forget about them.
“We’re here today to bring public awareness and to ask Congressman Murphy for his continued support,” Vasquez said.
Murphy’s press office said the congressman “welcomes the input and advice of his constituents.”
“[W]e need fundamental and real health care reform to fix the broken system. But real reform can’t happen without a serious look at cutting costs,” Murphy’s office said in a statement. “As the debate continues Congressman Murphy will discuss this critical issue with the people of the 20th District every day.”
In a nationally televised speech Wednesday night, Obama called his health care legislation the “key” to saving the economy.
He said that health care legislation is central to the goal of eventually rebuilding the economy stronger than it was before and would help those who lack health care coverage.
He called Medicare and Medicaid the “biggest driving force behind our federal deficit.” .................>>>>......................>>>>.............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....amp;EntityId=Ar01000

Congress will keep its own plan, thank you

I have a question for our illustrious members of Congress who are in the process of writing a sweeping health-care reform bill.
If you think this plan will be so great for the people who will be covered by it, why did you exempt yourselves from being included in it?

Forget the label, nation needs universal care

I feel the cause of high medical costs is due to greedy medical malpractice insurance companies. They compel physicians and hospitals to practice defensive medicine by requiring them to order needless and expensive tests and render unnecessary care. Furthermore, hospitals no longer consider you a “patient” but a “customer.” They unnecessarily render care on an hourly basis even though you may not have a serious illness.
I had a CT scan at Ellis Hospital on April 30, and while I was there about a half-hour, the bill was $8,000-$9,000. I understand the equipment is costly and the hospital personnel must be compensated, but I think this is outrageous.
The opponents of universal medical care, especially the insurance lobby, like to use catch phrases like socialism/Marxism and socialized medicine. Does it matter how you label it if it is good for the people?
In my lifetime, I have experienced, either personally or by study, that the United States has had a certain amount of socialism since the 1930s — i.e., Works Progress Act, Civilian Conservation Corp., Social Security, Workers’ Compensation, Unemployment Insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.
I do not support someone who wants to use the universal health care plan as a means of keep physicians, nurses and other medical personnel from being adequately paid, because I admire and respect them and feel that they are overworked and underpaid, especially in view of their responsibility.
Once again it’s a case of the tail wagging the dog.

If malpractice insurance is driving up the cost of health-care then why isn't the Obama administration including a solution in their bills, answer: because the Democrats accept large political contributions from the trial lawyers. The health-care system we have now can be reformed without trashing the whole system and forcing an inferior plan on all of us.

What I find most amusing is that Romolo IS an attorney and his brother, who has passed on, was a doctor.

Health plan good enough for us, but not for them

I am not happy with Mr. Obama’s universal health care.
Who of our elected officials in Washington will be the first to give up their health insurance that we pay for through taxes, and embrace Mr. Obama’s health care that he is trying to shove down our throats?
I don’t think any of the senators and congressmen have the fortitude to dump the plan they presently have, and will continue to have after they’ve retired, to sign on to Mr. Obama’s health care plan. Which of them will be the first to stand up and declare Mr. Obama’s plan is better than the one they now have?

1. Obama's '47 Million Uninsured' Claim Is False

President Barack Obama claimed during his Wednesday night press conference that there are 47 million Americans without health insurance.

A simple check with the U.S. Census Bureau would have told him otherwise.

Obama said: "This is not just about the 47 million Americans who have no health insurance."

That assertion conflicts with data in the Census Bureau report "Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2007." The report was issued in August 2008 and contains the most up-to-date official data on the number of uninsured in the U.S.

The report discloses that there were 45.65 million people in the U.S. who did not have health insurance in 2007.

However, it also reveals that there were 9.73 million foreigners — foreign-born non-citizens who were in the country in 2007 — included in that number. So the number of uninsured Americans was actually 35.92 million.

And of those, "there were also 9.1 million people making more than $75,000 per year who did not choose to purchase health insurance," CNSNews stated in a report based on the Census Bureau data.

That brings the number of Americans who lack health insurance presumably for financial reasons down less than 27 million.

The Census Bureau report also shows that the number of people without insurance actually went down in 2007 compared to the previous year — from 47 million to 45.65 million — while the number with insurance rose from 249.8 million to 253.4 million.

The next Census Bureau report disclosing health insurance data, with 2008 numbers, is scheduled to be released in August, and could figure in the healthcare reform debate.

Why Congress wants to keep own health plan

Re July 25 letter, “Congress will keep its own plan, thank you”: Great question by Richard Baluch, asking why Congress exempted themselves from being included in the health care they want for the rest of Americans.
Maybe it’s because Congress members don’t want themselves and their families to be at the mercy of bureaucrats as to whether they can receive quality-of-life treatments, or even treatments for their very life or death, rationing, long lines. Or, when they become senior citizens, be forced to have counseling every five years, or more often if they are sick, regarding alternatives for end-of-life care.
Rep. John Fleming (the 2007 Louisiana family physician of the year), put forth a bill, HR 615, to urge Congress members who vote for the health care reform bill to lead by example and enroll themselves in this public plan. Visit his Web site, http://www.fleming.house. gov, and see if your congressman signed on as co-sponsor of Rep. Fleming’s bill. If they did not, ask them why.
It might also be a good idea to pass along Fleming’s Web site link to family and friends in other states so they can find out if their congressman is looking out for them. Maybe they, too, would be willing to write a letter to the editor in their state so voters around the country will realize what a disaster this health care bill is — so bad that members of Congress do not want to be included.

If the health-care plan that Congress wants to pass isn't good enough for them then it's not good enough for us either.

Then Ms. Pelosi wouldn't have her choice of her surgeon and procedure and would be dead long before her turn in que....

as you can see she already had the one bionic eye put in(to prevent the iris scanning of her criminal activities),,,she now needs to
do her other eye.....later on down the road she will choose Michael Jackson's personal MD for the rest.....

choice is ONLY for the top 10%......laws are made to create criminals out of the bottom 90%.........

see, it really doesn't matter to the rest....what they fear is the edumacation of those under the middle class......they wouldn't
want 'them' to be as lucky as the President......
