Building Dept., Planning Dept., Zoning Dept., Assessment Dept. all closed at Town Hall.  Town Clerk, Supervisor, and Courts open.  Any business in the lower level is closed due to flooding.  I just got back from Town Hall after a very long day and we will not be able to open any departments downstairs.

Funny....I thought it was God's fault! I guess I've been praying to the wrong superior entity to reverse this wet weather, huh?

Rene, maybe the town of Duanesburg needs to sue Ford, since Henry Ford is the reason that we have all the cars, hence the global warming, hence the rain during the warm months, therefore the flooding and closing of businesses, losses of tax money to the town, county, state.

DUANESBURG
Moving graduation ceremony to Proctors criticized

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

Like many Duanesburg residents, Laila Kulicoff is a strong believer in town tradition.
She was thrilled to see her daughter receive a diploma from Duanesburg High School in the same multipurpose room that has hosted graduation ceremonies for generations. And she was looking forward to seeing her other daughter graduate in Duanesburg during the ceremony in 2011.
“Tradition, no matter how you slice and dice it, is important here,” she said. “Graduation is a tradition in Duanesburg.”
But starting next year, the traditional ceremony will change. District officials made a verbal commitment to host the 2010 graduation ceremony about 14 miles away at Proctors in Schenectady, breaking a more than five-decade-long tradition of hosting the event in Duanesburg High’s gym, which also serves as an auditorium.
Superintendent Christine Crowley said the move came in part because of persistent complaints the district received regarding past ceremonies in the high school gym. She said the criticism ranged from gripes about the gym’s uncomfortable chairs to grumbles about attendees not being able............>>>>..............>>>>...........http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....1&Continuation=1

EDITORIALS Honor vote to move Duanesburg graduation

Hundreds of Duanesburg residents have gotten their hackles up over a plan to hold Duanesburg High’s graduation at Proctors in Schenectady next year — a plan that was chosen in a poll of next year’s graduating class taken after persistent complaints about the longtime graduation site, the high school gym. The school board, which decided to put the question to the students, is waffling now that a petition with nearly 700 signatures in support of keeping the ceremony at the high school has been submitted. It needs to honor the students’ choice for at least next year.
While only half of the roughly 80 kids in next year’s graduating class responded to an e-mail asking them their preference for a graduation site, all but a few of the respondents indicated a preference for Proctors over the high school gym, which has been criticized for uncomfortable seats, poor sight lines and acoustics. Even though that may not constitute a majority of the class, it should suffice as an indication how the majority of the class feels. In this country, elections are determined by the number of people who vote; not the number of eligible voters. Students who didn’t bother responding can’t be presumed to have a preference for either site; so the decision has to rest with the majority of those who did. ..........>>>>............>>>>.................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00703&AppName=1

Move graduation to another high school

Re Aug. 6 article, “Moving graduation ceremony to Proctors criticized”: Graduation venue can be an extremely controversial issue as evidenced by the situation in Duanesburg, where Proctors vs. “home” facility is the issue.
Has consideration been given to using the auditorium of a larger nearby school that has comfortable seating and a more adequate sound system? Cobleskill-Richmondville can even accommodate hearing-impaired.
In addition, Schalmont or Guilderland might be a possibility. Perhaps consensus can be reached with those or similar facilities.

Another hilarious editorial from the Gazetto. They stop at nothing to promote failed Downtown. Forget about tradition {like with the Christmas Parade}, forget about what the vast majority of taxpayers want-move the graduation for 80 students to a 2,800 seat auditorium? Absolutely sickening.

The majority of students did not want it at Proctor's. Half voted and less than that wanted to move it. Bravo to the residents for putting their foot down. A total waste of $3,500. Now we will see what the Duanesburg School Board is made of-hopefully better than the deaf dumb and blind Schenectady School Bored?

80 graduates???

Duanesburg usually does things right. Keeping it in Duanesburg, saving the taxpayers some bucks is clearly a no brainer here!

Hope you're right-BT. Enough of this forced march to Proctor's to fill up the vast emptiness. It's all about making the Duanesburg sheeple pay for parking and maybe some will buy an overpriced gelato.

Keep the graduation in Duanesburg-Tradition! Expect the solid Duanesburg School Board to reverse themselves at the next meeting. Not a KRAT run disaster like pathetic Schenectady Schools.
