I come from a place that was surrounded by big-box stores. At first, I thought they were great. They were open 24 hours. I could get whatever I want, whenever I wanted, and I did. I started seeing places in town closing — but I let it go. I thought it’s progress; if you can’t make it, too bad. I started talking to folks in town. They told me how hard it was to compete, and didn’t know how much longer they could last. Soon, they were gone too. Once they’re gone, you can’t get them back. I realized I missed those little stores. Especially when I’d go to a big-box and they didn’t have what I was looking for because the item was discontinued or couldn’t be repaired, so go call the manufacturer. Good luck! When we moved up this way, I got that old small-town feeling back. It was nice, walking down Main Street, looking in the windows, getting to know some of the business owners. These are your neighbors, your friends. We won’t be gaining a store, we’ll be losing a community. Look at the damage that’s already been done by the current Wal-Mart, the Super Price Chopper, Hannaford, even Home Depot and Lowe’s — although in Amsterdam — affect this area too. People are trying, despite all of this. Johnstown is coming back to life. So can Gloversville, with the right leadership. Oh but they do care. Remember the poor 'unbanked and underserved'? That is the group that they are pandering to. So ok, lets say that the 'unbanked and underserved' do need a place to shop and Wal-Mart is the place. Well can't Wal-Mart at least fix their fence behind their building? Clean up their properties and hire their own law enforcement to patrol their area. Keep the 'unbanked and underserved' under control!

I want to purchase 10 kitchen table chairs (I'll use Pottery Barn as a brand, they are quite expensive), the chairs are $200.00 each, Now I have a choice, if I purchase all ten chairs now they will knock off 15% and pay my delivery fee essentially giving me almost 2 free chairs.....I dont have $2000.00 in 'free' money so I need to purchase them a couple at a time paying full price and a delivery fee each time......or I can charge it or loan it, paying a monthy interest fee(I cant pay it off next month either).....THAT IS WHAT BEING UNDERSERVED MEANS.....

The unbanked----- either have a nice big lumpy mattress in their house or a card the county they live in gives them to do their grocery shopping......

Fine...then put Wal-Mart in the area where the residents of their community are 'underserved and underbanked'!!!!! And I would have to believe, knowing how ole' Wal-Mart works...the word 'underserved' was a low blow, liberal slant to try to make the 'served and banked' feel bad. The ole' liberal trick...DIVIDE!!!
