Per their own fliers both REMS and Mohawk are profitable businesses so cancel the vote and leave things the way they are and see if the fliers are true. There's no need to create a tax district for a profit making, bill paying, efficient business or is this just a cover to hide the constant need for money from the town.

Isn't that false advertising? Anyone aware of their debts and who has seen their latest audit results knows better. If they were
operating in the black there would be no need for tax dollars.

Here's a question: How is it that REMS needs a staff of 65+ for two ambulances while Mohawk operates 28 ambulances with
200 employees, including administrative staff?

I wonder how old these two ads are - if it was before the tax issue, it wouldn't be "false advertising" - but if it's something recent, it would be, IMHO

None of it was true before tax issue...most of it is still untrue...and they only recently arranged for their installment plans...on a debt
that taxpayers will inherit if that tax district is ever formed and REMS is the recipient of those revenues.

It says 200 urgent care givers...that doesn't necessarily include administrative staff.   Mohawk's ad says nothing about administrative staff.

REMS add says nothing about staff at all.  Who says they have 65+?  If that IS the case, my guess is the majority are part time.

REMS said they have 65+ employees. Whether they are part time, full time or some combination thereof, how do you justify a work
force that size for two ambulances?

With that number of employees as overhead expense it's no wonder the REMS is in debt.

There clearly should be no vote required for this scam. Just put it out for bid.

Again.....rems has been awol for years. It was only until late, when it really got deeper in debt, did they go to the government and ask them for money to fund and support a business they could not keep afloat. Clearly not a business I want to invest my money in.

It's a no brainer here folks!

I have a question about this ambulance issue.

And I speak from more knowledge I guess about the city (of Schenectady).  You have a medical emergency.  You call 9-11.  They dispatch the paramedic/emergency medical from the government fire dept who in turn I guess contacts the ambulance if transport is needed. (I think I've got that right).

In Rotterdam, if we call 9-11, do our volunteer fire commpanies respond and then call the Rotterdam ambulance?  Or is Rotterdam ambulance dispatched directly from our 9-11 call and since they are also ambulance they transport from right there?

If we had Mohawk Ambulance, would they move some ambulances into the existing locations that REMS has?  Or would we be waiting for them to arrive from their Hamilton Hill location?

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

The Rotterdam Police Department Paramedic Program was established in 1980 with the position of Police Officer / Paramedic. As original Police Officer/Paramedics retired or changed positions, there arose a need to create a new type of Paramedic program.

Paramedics today undergo thousands of hours of training to achieve their state and/or national certification. This certification is dependent upon successful completion of a re-certification exam every three years and many hours of continuing education annualy. Paramedics must also maintain other certifications to practice in their respective operating region such as CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Prehospital Trauma Life Support.

As the field of EMS has evolved to become extremely intricate and demanding, many colleges and universities have developed accredited Associate degree programs in pre-hospital medicine to meet the educational demands placed on advanced providers. In addition, many Paramedics go on to earn degrees in medicine and nursing, obtaining positions in other
health care fields as well.

Currently the Rotterdam Paramedic unit employs one Paramedic Supervisor and four full-time duty paramedics. We also staff a compliment of part-time paramedics , to supplement staffing as well.
