GB ~ You make some good points, but let's be clear and not mislead the readers - we all wanted to believe that Joe was a 'real conservative' problem is he has never had a chance to prove it.  Voting 'NO' when you're in the minority is easy, try doing that when you're in the majority and actually leading, which is what he is proposing to do.  You'll know if he's a 'real conservative' tomorrow night.  He'll have his opportunity to either stand united with his fellow Republicans who are creating a new taxing district, or fight against its creation and speak up.  My money is on the former.

Leaders lead and followers follow, which will he opt for?

As far as thinking that you are JS, I have flip-flopped on that myself.  For instance, you're telling us that he's against a new taxing district and agrees with Michael.  But, in your past posts on this board you have agreed with Tommasone/Signore on the creation of the taxing district (I can find that for you if you need me to).  But, JS will have his opportunity to show his true colors.

I'm not bashing anyone.....just the if P then Q.....and we have all been in Rotterdam long enough to know that REMS WILL COST
TOO MUCH....soon rather than later.....national healthcare?-will it play a role in this? can anyone follow that thread?.....why cant we
use the fire depts around the town for REMS? as for BLS-ALS there IS a difference....we want to know the cost difference and
the 'value of life' difference......and whether or not it is a public safety issue with the control thereof is to be decided based on the
difference between BLS/ALS certification.......anyone can give a ride to the ER.......and a community can learn CPR/BLS......

I say make it private......the Feds are coming.......

This whole ambulance thing needs to be brought up for a referendum. It should be on the ballot in November. Will the town board do it, or do we have to force it?

It will be a huge beast if it ever ever takes hold. People need to spend that .42 for a stamp and tell all of our town board members NO for the start of a taxing district for REMS. Enough is enough!

Rotterdam looks at funding EMS corps
Thursday, August 13, 2009
By Justin Mason (Contact)
Gazette Reporter

ROTTERDAM — Funding Rotterdam Emergency Medical Services Inc. through an ambulance district would annually cost property owners about 10 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, according to a draft study reviewed by the Town Board Wednesday.
Rotterdam’s draft map, plan and report for the proposed ambulance district estimates that a homeowner with a property valued at $165,000 would pay $16.50 per year to fund the nonprofit company. In total, the ambulance district would contribute $232,527 annually to subsidize REMS, a figure that is slightly more than half of the company’s operating budget, according to the report.
Town officials anticipate conducting a public hearing on the final report sometime in September and could ratify the ambulance district by a majority vote afterward. If created, the ambulance district could only be dismantled by a referendum.
If the measure is approved, the board would maintain financial oversight of REMS finances as commissioners of the ambulance district. They could act as the commissioners or appoint commissioners who would operate separately from the ambulance company’s existing board of directors...........>>>>...........>>>>..........http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2009/aug/13/0813_ems/

Tommasone is beginning to sound more and more like obama. Why in God's name would we want to make our government even largeer by establishing another tax district for this town? What is the motives and benefits behind a government run ambulance corps? Why is he so reluctant to have the private sector, who is more than capable, to handle this service?

I don't believe, for one minute, that this will only cost us $16.50/year. Really!! Was present and future payrolls and benefits figured into this? How about when and if obamacare gets passed and reimbursements are even less than they are now? What about maintenance and new equipment and probably new guidelines for the future? And who exactly will be on this 'board' to oversee this beast?

And lastly WHY isn't this being placed on the ballot in November for 'we the people' to vote on?

WTH?

IMHO

Pretty sad that John Boy Mertz has to steal Bobby Godlewski's platform and line of questioning.

ahhhhh puddy....again you fail to know the truth! Or should I be so bold as to say 'twist the truth'?

EVERYONE knows that merzie has been consistant with his stand on the REMS issue since the beginning. Just check the record! Bob 'no change', has NEVER said a word about this....UNTIL...a couple of months before an election. Check bobby's record...please!
Funny how politics works in an election year....Judy Dago comes out of hiding and shows up in Duanesburg after 8 years. And how Bob 'no change' starts spewing the same platform as his opposition. Now THAT is sad....wouldn't ya say? IMHO
