"No more talk about it"???? FDG needs to have his head examined if this means he will completely disregard the disturbing facts about REMS.

And you are right MT....how pathetic that REMS relies on trashing the competition with whom they can't even compete in a desperate eleventh hour
plea to dupe residents again...this is the same "marketing" that was strictly prohibited from the proposals. The REMS proposal should be
disqualified on those grounds, if no other...not that there isn't alread plenty of justification to suspend any consideration of REMS for the ems contract.

As a side note, while I was present after the opening of the proposals...a REMS emt made the comment to me that "we will have to charge people now."
I told them they should have been doing that all along...that there is nothing wrong with expecting payment for a service or product delivered to the
consumer. I also asked how is it that they can now suddenly offer their service at no cost to taxpayers after insisting for years that they could not
survive with out a tax bonanza...no answer.

Also, REMS proposal includes a commitment to "gatherings"...these are the same ball games, bike races, etc. that REMS has covered for free...and
apparently are willing to continue this practice. When will they learn that they will never be self sustaining by providing an expensive service for free?
And how could they possibly think that "free" services are free at all....someone has to pay the salaries of those "free" responders standing by. It's the
same socialism concept...someone else will pay for a service they did not use.

Quoted Text
Supervisor Rene Merrihew sent a recommendation lauding REMS for answering calls in Duanesburg in 2009, when the town’s embattled volunteer ambulance service was in the midst of reorganizing and Mohawk couldn’t guarantee ambulance service.

The information revealed in the Gazette article begs the following questions:

  • Is this matter the business of the Duanesburg (or any other Town) Supervisor?
  • Will REMS continue to service Duanesburg if they are the selected Rotterdam EMS provider?
  • Will REMS guarantee an additional ambulance if they service the towns of Princetown and Duanesburg so that Rotterdam is not left with a single ambulance when one is answering calls outside of the town limits?
  • Did the Town of Duanesburg pay REMS for the calls that they answered in 2009?  If so, is that income reflected on their financial filings?
  • Will Duanesburg and Princetown contract for REMS to be a EMS provider in their towns?

Probably - then it will be called DEMS - instead of REMS.   LOL

I would say it is not the business of other elected officials who do not have to answer for this decision...and are unlikely to be aware
of all pertinent details in the matter.

REMS cannot guarantee an additional ambulance 24/7...they don't have enough of them...which is why their proposal offers only
limited coverage with additional ambulances.

I believe there was an agreement for payment under discussion with Duanesburg...just not sure how it was settled...I'll look into
that...but I do know there is no itemized record indicating Duanesburg as a specific source of income....and REMS does service
Princetown as well...again, not sure what the terms are...I only know that REMS services both Towns...and that there is in fact
an agreement in place between Rotterdam and both of those Towns for our paramedic services.

The funniest part to this entire thing is that Mohawk blows REMS away and yet the town board has to 'think' about it!! ONLY IN ROTTERDAM!!!! The home of the 'good ole boys club'!

Mohawk is clearly the best choice for rotterdamians. Perhaps Princetown and Duanesburg can find a home for REMS.....yes?

And I also agree that I was surprised to hear that the duanesburg super got involved in an issue that clearly was out of her decision making jurisdiction. Should rotterdamians have to pay and sacrifice for the betterment of duanesburg?

If REMS is such a great non profit service, why haven't they duplicated there sucess to other areas of the County?

Why isn't there a:

SEMS- Schenectady EMS
GEMS- Glenville EMS
NEMS- Nisky EMS
DEMS- Duansburg EMS
PEMS- Princetown EMS

Hey, Cicero, you forgot that we're consolidating things, so it would probably be another "State and Federal Mandate" called SCEMS, Schenectady County EMS, and cover all.

REMS should not be able to keep the Princetown Road building...it was somehow transferred to them for free in 1980 when they
didn't even exist....and their Cardiff Road building has been supported with public funding. As it is, should Mohawk get this
contract, REMS will walk away with a ready made private business in which there is significant public investment...a non-existent
luxury for other new businesses that have to invest their own money. They should not be able to take more public money by
obstructing the sale and property tax income that building could be generating for the Town.

how about that pretty handout they just got in the form of taxpayer paid for ambulances?  would no contract w/ town violate terms of that grant? would they have to give back money?

if they have deeds to the properties - it will be a drawn out mess for mohawk to purchase one of those properties.

rotterdam will continue on in its stand still, no vision for future

vote goes

calder, martin, godlewski(trying to save political career) in favor of REMS
FDG - Mohawk
Dileva - absent or abstains     - Lets see your champion of the people stand up for the taxpayer now

REMS bashing Mohawk, in an RFP was TOTALLY uncalled for, outside the scope of the RFP and should immediately disqualify them.

REMS has some nerve bashing anyone for an unfortunate tragedy while they are being sued for malpractice as I post this.

If this ISN'T politics as usual in rotterdam, they will all vote in favor of Mohawk since that IS what is in the best interest for the taxpayers.
WC, MM, BG and ND aren't really that stupid. They are all educated folks and can 'read'.  YES is the unbias, educated, informed vote!!

As far as FDG.....he is a business man and knows that mohawk is the best choice by all standards.

Whoever votes in favor of rems, will be a vote for rotterdam politics as usual and they should all be voted out in the next election cycle. imo of course!
