So now that REMS is not a non-profit and is considered a private business, can all private businesses buy their fuel from the county at a discounted rate? It appears that they are not paying the tax on the fuel. I'm not sure, but do all private businesses follow the same protocol or is this setting a new precedence?  How do other private ambulance services supply their fuel? Just askin'.

I think that Mohawk should also talk to TJ and get their gas from the county.

I hope TJ doesn't plan on becoming a COUNTY cheerleader for a COUNTY tax scam for a COUNTY ambulance service.

'Private' ambulance services, like all other private businesses/services, get paid when they 'sell' their product or service.

I would imagine each fire district would have to budget that into their annual operating expenses.  I would assume they would pay for the stand-by and the patient would pay for the transport.  But to tell you the truth, I don't know how exactly.  I'm sure the fire district cheifs would have a better understanding.

they can get absorbed by the fire/police in town.....I'm sure we have more than enough room at the fire-condos to assist..if our need
is safety and not another 'business start' via tax payer, then I think as a town we should set up with each fire house/district....although
the city had issues and couldn't afford them(and still cant)....but being volunteer we have no problem...or would we?

I am glad that the County leadership did the right thing and is looking out for our public safety.

If REMS can buy gas from the county Mohawk had better be able to as well after all the county is spending our tax money because they don't have any themselves. I guess this is going to be a new entitlement provided by the county to all taxpayers. When do I get my new gas card?

Man some of you are pretty thick.  Let me draw it out:

Mohawk - FOR PROFIT.
REMS - NOT-FOR-PROFIT.

REMS can BUY fuel from the town or county because they AREN'T profiting from it. In fact, one could argue that the only people who "profit" from REMS is those who are using the service. Now let's back up a bit for the slow-minded: The fuel that is BOUGHT by REMS is PAID-FOR by REMS therefore NO county funds are expended. This is akin to allowing a fire district draw from the pumps.

Mohawk, on the other hand, uses fuel to MAKE MONEY. This would be akin to allowing Larned to purchase fuel from the town pumps.

Once they start full hard billing (which I believe already started) - and they're not on the govt teet - they cease to become "non-profit"
