As far as the vote goes, looks like the stock in the No New Tax Party just went through the roof.  Mr. Mertz was in Town Hall yesterday and stopped by our office to say hello, I'll have to say he was a pleasure, but that's probably because he's no longer in politics.  He did call the election, saying 6 out of 10 would vote no.  Someone asked if he would be running again and his answer was "I'm retired"

Well, I hope the No Tax guys do run again, they will have my vote.

You are correct. All of the NNTP guys, while campaigning, were very vocal on all taxes including the proposed rems taxing district at the meetings, in news articles, their websites and when they went door to door. No big secret there.

Be it the same guys, different guys, NNTP or another name, they are ripe for the picking now! Perhaps they can run a countywide slate. The reps, cons and dems have failed the electorate miserably. The entire county is worse off because of them.

As far as mertzie............looks like he was right all along!!!

Alley was engaging Cicero.  If she wants to post on the Forum she needs to be prepared for feedback.

Not to worry AVON.  Alley and boomer are one in the same.  Boomer's defense of Alley is nothing more than theater.

But to Zorro's point.  Why was Mohawk responding in Rotterdam?  Where were our $400K worth of Paramedics?  Where were our REMS?  I guess there are no perfect systems.

The biggest winners BT are FDG and Bob Godlewski........they resisted the Gadfly and Carolina Lazzari's call to cancel the vote.  Kudos to Frank and Bob for steady sailing through shark infested waters.  Hail to the Chiefs!!!!!

The vote was never needed so why did FDG and BG push so hard for it to be put out as a referendum.

REMS must be SO embarrased - they haven't updated their facebook page with the results of the vote, or provided any status update.  The last reply was from Rene Merrihew, who I believe is a town supervisor in Duanesburg, showing support for REMS.  Previous to that, someone named Harry who says "I guess you can take the dog outta the fight, but you can't take the fight outta the dog" - but nothing official.  They haven't even taken down their "vote yes" picture yet

Wonder what their plan is now?

Reassurance???  Yeah, they really have their finger on the pulse of the people.  The margin was razor thin, that vote could have went either way.  Real leadership would have stood up and said this vote is unnecessary, the majority of the residents oppose a voting district.  But we will work closely with REMS to help them become solvent.

The whole Town Board was tone deaf.

DV- kiss your "future run for office" goodbye if you continue to go against the will of the people.  You will lose.  Many political careers have been tarnished by this vote.  Kudos to those local Dems and Reps who "get it."

There are many folks in Rotterdam that supported REMS and the tax district - I am not worried about
facing the voters .. you know why .. because I am honest with the voters about where I stand on the
issues.  Unlike a number of current office holders who refuse to answer questions or who try to play
both sides of an issue or who try to push an agenda through subterfuge and clandestine maneuvers.
As I said since last Spring,  have a healthy, honest and OPEN debate on the issue -- then let the voters
decide.   The voters decided -- so now we move on.

Funny, in another thread, you told me you had no elected office aspirations.

Guess the wind is blowing in a different direction these days.  This'll be fun.

Real leaders WIN elections, cut taxes and reform municipal government, all achievements so far for FDG.  The people had no problem expressing their reluctance for more taxes.  FDG DOES have a pulse and his only special interest is the residents and that they are treated fairly and with respect.  HE doesn't take a dime, is at TH every day and doesn't rely on the Tomassone goon squad to run the show.  FDG is a lock for re-election by the looks of things today!!!!  Keep the Revitalize train moving and sweep out more of the Tommasone turds left floating in the cesspool that BT so often refers to!

No, he relies on that bozo sitting on his left to run the show. It's almost comical.

What Bozo did Steve rely on; or did he do this to himself and the rest of the GOP on his own?   Any ideas of a comeback for the previous admin. were dashed last night.  ALL of them.  Including Mertz!!!!  The people are still pissed off at Steve as evidenced by last nights vote and the Mohon vote his future son-in-law pushed for.  STICK A FORK in them, they is done!!!

Once again Cis--you opened your mouth and inserted your foot.  Alley and moi are definitely TWO different people. Perhaps you and BT are the same but not in this case.  Lots of people responded to that call.  Even the fire department.  The confusion was over the address.  But they did not leave his wife alone--they stayed with her on the phone.  They instructed her how to do CPR.  Everyone there treated her with kindness and  compassion. There seemed to be a mix of folks who got to the scene. I think both Rotterdam EMT folks and Mohawk were there.  It was 1:30 a.m.  It was a shocking event and as you can see painful for Alley to remember.  Just because Alley brought this up NOW is hardly inappropriate.  Avon peoples stories are always important.

As for being triumphal over the win--even if you owned a $700,000 home--you would have only paid $70 more in taxes as I understand it.  Correct me if I am wrong.  I would hardly start bringing out the NNTP.  This is not what you would call a seminal moment.
