i'd like to see 500 word for a yes vote,  and not a rotterdam history lesson

the #'s are all over the place on the issue

the town comptoller has a hard time with $100K being handed over to the town and now in red we see $150K

the call avg is 6.7 calls a day of which 2.7 calls per day are non ALS according to the red documentand and what a tax dist is paying for

based on the services offered ALS vs BLs, and from what i hear BLS might as well be a ride in a blue and white hearse

traffic also stops for a funeral procession

no wonder FDG drove himself to the hospital

looks like a yes vote will add purple lights on the new equipment for BLS services

and just how will the 150K off set the costs to the town ?  are they saying thet if they dont complete the proper ducuments it costs $380k a year to operate the service

first it was $120k(2009) then it was $230K(early 2010) now we are up to $380K(late 2010)   - and the train is just getting started

if the public votes no to the taxing district REMS could change the word from ambulance to ambulette and save in operating costs

as for Kelly  - it apears to me she is fighting for a cause rooted deep in her Conservative beliefs,  whether you believe she wrote the piece or not she will stand before anyone and supply facts that match the written document -those who just sign letters cannot do the same.

I wonder to who and where the ALS money went?

Tippy raises a number of good questions about the financial issues facing REMS and until those issues are resolved and the true cost of the service they provide is audited by a third party no taxpayer dollars should fund REMS. So far it looks like the tax district, if it passes, could be a very expensive item to fund when all the expenses are exposed.

A.  If I am wrong on this, as I previously saw that I was wrong about the Wal-Mart, then and only then, will I admit that I am wrong.  Until then, I will stand by my convictions.

B.  I am sorry that you think that I "share the same anti-capitalistic ideology as ms donovan."  The fact is that I believe that the people of Rotterdam need to be able to have the service that they need no matter when it is needed.  I would wonder if you were in the spot where you needed an ambulance and called 911, what would your reaction be when you are told that they need to send another ambulance from Downtown Schenectady since the one and only ambulance that is supposed to be covering the entire towns of Rotterdam and Princetown was already sent on a call to Rotterdam Junction or Duanesburg for mutual aid?

C.  Mohawk may indeed not be a fly by night operation, but what they are suggesting for what they will supply to the residents of Rotterdam as a service is.  If sounds as if the ambulance is going to be just driving around town waiting for something to happen, they won't even be using the property that REMS currently owns.  They promised to have an ambulance in town, not at a specific location in town.  Also, if the vote goes no, which by this would mean that it is not funding the district, therefore not funding REMS does not mean that REMS immediately closes and turns over the keys of it's buildings to Mohawk.  If you think that this will immediately turn the property over to Mohawk and put it on the tax rolls, then I guess you believe that it is OK for the government, or in this case, the people through a vote, to tell a not-for-profit organization, that they can have the property ripped out of their hands by eminent domain?  Well, if you say that REMS must hand over the property, then that's what you're saying.

So, if there's 2 bad ideas, which of these is the "less bad?"

Also, with the money coming out of the general budget, we have no voice when it comes to how REMS is being run.  It is just like a blank check that is being written to them each month.  This way, we will at least have the ability to bring to the floor changes, just like we have in the fire departments with fire commissioner meetings, etc.  While this is something that I have not availed myself of at this time, I believe that adding the taxing district at this time will give the people more of a voice in how REMS is run than is currently in effect.  The people will have more of a voice in a organization that their money has been supporting for some time while they were not allowed to speak in regards to how it was spent.

Very well put Kevin

What I think will be interesting is - after this rigged referendum, and if by some chance the taxing district passes, BUT,,,only 10 or 15 percent of total property owners made it to the ONE polling site(Town Hall) during the 12 hour window to cast a vote.  Will the current Town Board members have the GULL to say that the residents have spoken with such a LOW turnout?  Will they be so arrogant to assume that by residents not showing up to vote "NO" for this unnecessary taxing district, they must support the taxing district?

If this taxing district passes with a low turnout, this will be fertile ground for NNTP candidates (registered Republican/Democrat) to primary the Republican and Democrat candidates and run on the grassroots NNTP line again.  The people that were reluctant to vote for the NNTP candidates last election because they thought they were throwing away their vote, will realize that by voting the status quo major party candidates on the ballot last year, they voted for a tax increase where only a minority of the residents were represented in the vote.  And that those they elected to "Revitalize Rotterdam" designed the referendum for a low turnout so they could stack the deck in favor of those that stand to gain the most financially from the taxing district.

The Town Board is comprised of officials from three political parties; Democrat/Republican/Conservative.  In light of the Schalmont survey, regardless if the sampling may be off, NOT one official from any party voiced opposition to this taxing district, representing those of us in the majority that oppose a new taxing district.  Brian McGarry is the only person that has run for Town office that has been consistent in his public opposition to this taxing district.

Fat chance.  I have not heard one politician speak in opposition of this taxing district.  Which I find amazing after the Schalmont survey results.

Let's see according to my math MAS will give the town $150,000 per year to supply ambulance service, REMS will cost the town taxpayer $150,000 per year to supply ambulance service so that's a net loss of $300,000 per year to the taxpayer if REMS wins the tax district vote.

You could be right on that Cicero as the price for REMS to do business is always on the rise. I used the original figure.
