We Are Here For You!

One of the largest and most qualified team of emergency medical professionals in the Northeast

Brief History

Mohawk Ambulance Service began operations in 1964 with only two vehicles and a small garage. Today, Mohawk Ambulance maintains a fleet of 29 ambulances throughout the Capital Region.

Mohawk Ambulance service employs more than 200 people trained to meet your emergency medical services and transportation needs with four strategic locations in Albany, Schenectady, Troy and Brunswick.

Our 24-hour, seven-days-a-week central dispatch center serves the counties of Albany, Schenectady, Troy and Saratoga.

Communications

Mohawk Ambulance is proud of its state of the art hi tech communications center which is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year with knowledgeable and specialty trained personal.

Our Advanced (RescueNet™) CAD system is specially designed to make call taking and dispatching for emergent & non-emergent situations more organized and efficient.

Mohawk Ambulance is able to see in real time the locations of all 33 ambulances, fly cars and wheelchair vans. It is a powerful and essential part of system status management and it allows our dispatchers to maximize the availability of Mohawk's resources for the fastest possible response to an emergency call. Often ambulances are responding before you hang up the phone.

REMS facebook page is very interesting (apparently started on 6/1/10):

Joe VanDerwerker If you are not disgusted enough with our Town Board to not attend their meetings, please come and support REMS Sept. 15, 7:00 at Town Hall when we are to explain to them why we would be the "best fit" choice to provide EMS for the Town of Rotterdam? You will have a chance to comment also. (unless they change that too)
Thank you for all the support you have provided thus far!

What exactly is the ambulance district vote for?
by Rotterdam EMS on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 2:10pm
As always, we at REMS are very appreciative of your strong support. As I'm sure you've heard, at least 2 of the 5 Rotterdam Town Board Members are looking to move the date of the vote which, if passed, would create Rotterdam Ambulance District #1. Indications are that the vote would be moved from June 29, 2010 to an unspecified date in October 2010 so that all parties involved would be able to get the appropriate information out to the public about this vote. REMS supports this idea, as we hope to get the correct information out to the public.

One area that has become concerning for us at REMS is exactly what the vote is for. We know that it pertains to the creation of Rotterdam Ambulance District #1, but it is unclear which EMS service will be the ambulance service provider for Rotterdam. In an article in today's (6/9/10) Daily Gazette, Town Supervisor Frank Del Gallo says that "regardless of the vote, the [town] board intends to bid out its ambulance service." "It doesn't matter. It still has to be bid on." It has been the belief by all of us at REMS that the referendum to create Rotterdam Ambulance District #1 was specifically for REMS, but in the eyes of some on the Rotterdam Town Board this is not so.

Because of the importance of this vote, we want to make sure everyone is aware of what this vote is actually for. We ask that you pass this information along to your friends and family, so everyone can make an informed decision. If you believe Rotterdam EMS should be the ambulance service provider for Rotterdam Ambulance District #1, voice your opinion at tonight's (6/9/2010) Town Board meeting stating you support the ambulance district for Rotterdam EMS; not for another ambulance provider.

Tim Gaffney You gotta be kidding me!!!! That Del Gallo is either thick-headed or just an idiot. Well, the town got it's change after the last election by kicking out out Tommasone and the Republicans and they were the ones who could've had that Rotterdam Ambulance District #1 voted on and all set for REMS by now if the voters didn't kick them out. Well, I wish REMS the best of luck and hopefully the voters don't take their stupid pills.

Rich Warner Seems like stupid pills are on the menu for all politicians. I'm personally fed up with both parties, but be assured the voters, regardless of their frustration and discontent are eternally grateful for the hard work and sacrifice of the emergency services provided by the dedicated people who do so. Their character should serve as a model for our politicians. -Thanks for your service.

So, the members and President of the BOD (Board of Directors?) think FDG and the politicians are taking "stupid pills", "thick headed" and an "idiot"?  Mr Gaffney even says "hopefully the voters don't take their stupid pills". Seems like the REMS employees aren't all that happy with the Town Board, or Town Supervisor, and by their comments were more happy with Tommasone.

I can't see a whole lot of harmony with the town board if a new tax district is created. Sounds like trouble brewing, ALREADY

Better Business Bureau gives Mohawk Ambulance Service an A+ rating. I can't find one for REMS.

The GOP  Tomassone-Buchanan-Paris crew bailed on it .. because the Democratic-Conservative ticket was
not drawn into a "shooting war" over the issue.

OK,,so they didn't bail because the issue had "no traction" or sank like a "led balloon" like your original analysis.  Now it was because the Dem/Con ticket wasn't drawn into a "shooting war" over the issue.  But yet the Dem/Con takes up the issue within the first 3 months of their term, and none of the newly elected officials on the town board have taken an official public position on the issue, as our Town LEADERS.

Real leadership.

what prevents rems from being a ALS provider?

This would be a piece of paper that is bouncing back and forth between lawyers.  They don't even know which lawyer has it at this time, at least the last thing I heard.

In 2005 and 2009 -- the GOP put up campaign lawn signs  which said on top   "SAVE OUR EMS"  ---
now the leader of the Regressives would like us to think that the signs meant different things in
different years  ... the FACT is the signs said   "SAVE OUR EMS" and when some suggested privatizing
the ambulance service in 2005  the GOPers and their sycophant Regressive friends  -- went on the
war path against them.     How dare you privatize our ambulance -- and they put up the "SAVE OUR
EMS"signs.
THAT IS A FACT

Last year when the GOP majority on the town board raised the tax district issue at the August Town Board Meeting -- not ONE GOPer or sycophant Regressive got up to oppose  the GOP proposal to have a tax district.    (I don't count Mertz as a GOPer at that time because he had already taken a drink from the "tea cup" and was way off the reservation)   Frank Salamone was pretty quiet on the subject  -- soI assume that because it was a GOP idea in August 2009 -- then he was all in favor of the tax district.

fastforward to Spring 2010 -- a new Democratic-Conservative controlled town board resurrects the
SAME  proposal made by the GOPers about 7 months earlier  -- and   the GOPers led by Frank
Salamone and the Regressives led by "the one we shall not talk about"  -- were orgasmically falling
all over themselves to criticize the proposal.   They were up one side of the administration and down
the other.

The GOPers and the Regressives do NOT have the best interests of the town at heart -- they are
looking out only for their political future and their best interests.

There you go with that convenient memory again. Unlike you, I have been there since the day this scheme was first conceived...and
I have consistently opposed this tax ever since. Once again, you wouldn't know because you weren't there...as you had no personal
need to be involved...like your recent dream of becoming a Deputy Clerk...you just re-surface every now and again and pretend to
know what you are talking about...when in fact you are just a babbling idiot who relies on others to fill you in. It's time to
re-evaluate your informational sources.

Another problem has arisen with the tax vote.

Since FDG switched gears again on the bidding process for ems...the town will now only have a couple of weeks for the bidding process if the tax
is rejected as many expect....not that there is any need for a bidding process...since no one approaches a muniicipality to bid on how much they
will pay the Town to provide a service...the purpose of bidding is the other way around...to obtain a product or service for the best possible price.
REMS of course will not be able to compete with free...let alone generate revenue for the town. In the simplest terms, Mohawk is a taxpayer and
REMS is a taxeater.

Then there is still the question of legality regarding the resolution to guarantee REMS an ems contract should the tax be approved. This, IMO, is
no different than illegally designating REMS in the referendum language on the ballot. In fact, I cannot recall a single incident in which the town
has ever passed a resolution in advance to respond to an event that has not yet even occurred.

If the TB were to do what's best for the taxpayer there would be no vote and Mohawk would provide the service especially in a time when the economy is in terrible shape, people unemployed, houses being foreclosed on, and revenues are down. Nobody with any common sense would even think of raising taxes to fund something that doesn't need to be funded.
