It figures --- the so-called "conservatives" on this website .. who claim to be the guardians of the true
American ideals and democratic values ...  are now calling the leaders "arrogant" for putting a matter up for a public referendum.
What they really want is to take Rotterdam and the nation back to the 18th century .... where we would
have no modern conveniences .. no cars, no phones, etc  ...    and they want to be the only people with
the right to voice an opinion or to decide public policy.

Wrong again DVOR we just want the government to stay the hell out of our lives, cut spending,. lower taxes and do what it was formed to do 1 protect our country from harm. 2 Seal our borders to prevent illegal immigrants along with terrorists and drug dealers from coming into the country. 3 Run the Federal programs as outlined in the constitution and stop trying to take the powers given to the states by the Constitution.

Ron,

I'm going to type very slowly so that even you can understand my expressed views.

I did not suggest that our elected officials are arrogant for putting the tax district up for a referendum.  I opined that they are arrogant,
that they possess a sense of self-entitlement, and will reportedly resort to intimidation and threats of retribution to further their personal
ambitions and the interests of their connected friends and family.  Our public officials were elected to represent, not rule, their constituents.

Schenectady County Legislator Anthony Jasenski, D-Rotterdam, denies sending out an e-mail that said there would be “political repercussions” in the town of Rotterdam if the Town Board ultimately decided to choose Mohawk Ambulance Service over Rotterdam Emergency Medical Services, or REMS.

WOW!!! Clearly this entire vote has been nothing but a political manipulation of the taxpayers!!! And DVR, how dare you call the opposition to the liberal socialists 'negative and liars', when in fact YOUR liberal socialist political party is corrupt, threatening, and LIARS!!!!!! And obviously YOU are one of them.

Working together????????? Sure, the liberal socialists will work with ya, only if your are morally corrupt, threatening and a LIAR!!!

WOW!!

and you OPPOSE even holding a public referendum ... because you fear that when you wake up on
December 15, 2010  you will realize that a majority of your neighbors actually want to keep REMS and think
that a mere 10cents per thousand is worth paying to protect the lives of themselves and their loved ones.

BTW -- stopping the tax district will not do any of the 3 things that you have outlined

10cents per thousand is a small price to pay for a vital public service like EMS.

$15 to $25 for most of the property owners for a whole year ---- most people think that is a
good investment to save lives.

NO cost is a better price than your socialist tax dreams...especially with the complete range of services REMS cannot offer and the
peace of mind in knowing that they will meet the standards of response times....and you forgot the part about Mohawk's life-saving
priorities. As usual you have a convenient version of everything...your preference would be that everyone believe REMS is the only
game in town and the only ones capable of emergency care...another one of the scare tactics you deny employing.

This whole rems issue stunk of back room deals and manipulation right from the beginning! NOW it is coupled with political threats???

If the rotterdam fire depts are so hell bent on supporting a taxing district for rems, why don't they give up some of their 'taxpayer' money and combine services at no extra cost to the taxpayers? How much funding does the rotterdam fire districts receive from the taxpayers, INCLUDING donations?

If rotterdam's local government kept this 'clean' and just turned it over to a private business years ago, this corrupt political bullcrap would have never transpired.

This is what happens when government gets involved!! Only in rotterdam.......the laughing stock!! IMHO

Paying NOTHING for a more superior life saving service is even a BETTER investment to rotterdam taxpayers who are already going to receive a double digit increase in their taxes!

No proof that the alternative is "more superior"  -- our family has had experience with both and prefer REMS
and we have alway been sent and paid bills from both services.

Since the potential referendum appears to have been manipulated through Schenectady County, REMs "brothers" and "sisters" in other emergency responders, and probably through the Senior Center, the Town Board better send an impartial informational flyer to the towns people to demonstrate "impartiality" before the vote.  If not I would recommend the Attorney General investigate this meddling in this matter.

I think the AG should be notified NOW!! After all, it is an election year!

This entire process has been corrupted by the 'friends and family club' with no regard for the overburdened rotterdam taxpayers! The liberal socialists, along with rotterdam's OWN safety departments, have shown their true colors for what they are. They have threatened, manipulated, lied and coerced the democratic process! The rotterdam residents have been douped into a sense of false security with lies and threats.

These merry band of idiots have got to go!!!! IMHO
