I don't see how this vote can happen LEGALLY!!! How can a person who owns multiple properties only get ONE vote??? How are the absentee ballots going to be handled?

The by laws and the date of the vote has been hand picked to slant the vote in favor of a taxing district. They already know howmany properties there are in rotterdam and who owns multiple ones. This vote has been politically manipulated and is slighting the taxpayers!!

And if I recall....when paolino, who is a dem, was supervisor for rotterdam, this was an issue then, and I believe he supported privatization of the ambulance service!

Come on folks, you are talking about rotterdam politics here! SOMEONE is going to gain SOMETHING from this taxing district and it ain't gonna be the rotterdam taxpayers!!! WHY, IN THE LAST ELECTION, DID THE REPS ACTUALLY RUN ON SUPPORTING THIS TAX DISTRICT? WHO RAN ROTTERDAM'S POLITICAL CAMPAIGN LAST YEAR?

Come on, as dvr would say, you negative lying rotterdamians.........You'se are smart....THINK!!!!

Everyone who owns property should be able to vote on the referendum after all they all pay taxes and should be able to vote on something that's going to cost them money. What are they going to do with a husband and wife whose names are both on the tax roles as taxpayers, deny one of them the right to vote when they both pay taxes.

DVOR you just don't grasp the concept that REMS became a business when they decided to accept a salary for their services and in doing so run the same risks as any other business does. I was on the volunteer ambulance squad as an EMT for 6 yrs until they went to a paid system and know the inner workings of their system. As part of the training we had to ride with Mohawk and assist for an 8 hr shift and they are a very good ambulance service. If the demand for more than one ambulance is evident there would be another one assigned to the area. Mohawk operates as a business and that's why they don't need a government hand out to stay in business and REMS should do the same.

You just don't grasp the concept that some of us WANT to keep REMS ....
a) we like the service that they provide
b) we are willing to pay $20 a year (that is 10cents per thousand on my home's assessed value) for
whatwe consider a vital service
c)  we are willing to live by whatever is decided when the votes of the referendum are counted.

You aren't going to change my position on the issue nor the position of many people who support REMS ..
as far as I am concerned the debate is over --- I will wait until the votes are cast on December 14 to
say any more on the subject,

It's only $20 this year and then REMS will need new ambulances and the cost goes up. DVR and REMS employees want the taxing district so that REMS will be just like every other public sector job guaranteed a salary with raises each year all compliments of the taxpayer.

Kevin March--the NNTP was a waste of time.  Nothing of substance came from that action.  Those running looked like sour grapes.  They back-stabbed eachother.  And Mertz was the wrst of them alwith Littlefield a close second.

I said that I wanted one of their signs, not for the party to come back.  Actually, I would prefer that people with their views were to actually come and take part in the major parties.  The election last year should show the leaders of the parties that the people are sick and tired of politics as usual.

What I was saying is that I wanted one of their signs, to show that I wanted "No New Taxes," not necessarily a return of the party.  I just hope that the powers that be in the parties see how upset people were with the status quo in taking so many votes away from the other parties, especially the Republican Party.

And as far as the tax, we all pay enough taxes already, and we pay enough for health care  insurance.  This was the administration that was going to watch every single penny.  How is that going this year?  Not too well.

At the very least, it cannot possibly be a fair vote...while owners of multiple properties will only have one vote, they will be expected
to pay for each of those properties. Even if they only paid for one property, the question becomes, which one? The one with the
highest assessed value? IF a tax of this nature were necessary, it should be a flat tax...requiring taxpayers to pay different amounts
for the same thing makes it all the more unfair. When you add the prospect of no absentee ballots...the last draft of voting
guidelines for this referendum since the last vote was postponed stated that there would be none...which would explain why it was
never addressed last night...they already know that they will declare absentee voters ineligible. It is just another in a string of tactics
employed to fix the vote in favor of REMS...and I have always publicly contended that such maneuvers would be used...the
suspicious scheduling...the convenient ignorance of the private option...all meant to suppress the opposition vote....only the
interested parties are sure to turnout, no matter what day, holiday, weather, etc. They have an intense self interest in doing so.

You are right about Paolino...he opposed the tax district then, and continues to favor privatization to this day...and I don't know
how the Tommasone administration could have supported it. I warned them more than a year earlier when this nighmare came up
again that this tax district would be an issue in the election the following year...but they were more concerned with the deals made
for that district...in which they were of course eventually screwed...of which, by the way, they were also warned.

Is it legal the way this vote is being handled with people being excluded from the privilege to vote.

Legislator denies sending pro-REMS e-mail

John Purcell 10/07/10
Mohawk officials dispute content of widely circulated message

Schenectady County Legislator Anthony Jasenski, D-Rotterdam, denies sending out an e-mail that said there would be “political repercussions” in the town of Rotterdam if the Town Board ultimately decided to choose Mohawk Ambulance Service over Rotterdam Emergency Medical Services, or REMS.

The two companies are vying to provide emergency services to the town, with both making a case before the board at a Wednesday, Sept. 15, meeting. At that meeting, Jasenski gave the presentation for the not-for-profit REMS.

Thomas Nardacci, a spokesman for Mohawk, said that a couple of days after the presentations, he was forwarded an e-mail believed to have originated with Jasenski by someone who declined to be identified. The e-mail, dated Sunday, Sept. 19, was allegedly sent at 4:36 p.m. to unknown individuals and includes in the subject line “Referendum & REMS.”
Nardacci provided a copy of the e-mail to The Spotlight.

Jasenski said he is not disputing the e-mail was sent from his account, but he said he did not personally sent the message.

“While I do send out and receive a lot of e-mails, I glanced through my files and was unable to locate any record of this specific e-mail being sent by me,” said Jasenski. “I am seriously quite alarmed by the possibility of someone sending out e-mails and attributing them to me, and I am very interested in finding out from Mr. Nardacci the exact circumstances of how he came to be in possession of an e-mail, allegedly sent from me and to me, and will be contacting him directly for whatever information he can provide about its source before deciding how to further proceed.”

Nardacci said he received an e-mail from Jasenski around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5, asking him about the original e-mail and how he acquired it.

“He [Jasenski] was kind of being confrontational with me, but I am not going to respond to him directly,” said Nardacci.

The contested e-mail also said that if the town were to dissolve REMS in favor of the for-profit Mohawk, there would be “political repercussions emanating from the other town emergency services providers and fire departments who unequivocally support continuing our community based ambulance service.”

Rotterdam being held hostage by our own emergency services.  The County Legislator representing Rotterdam is threatening his own constituents if they choose to dissolve the REMS.  Just when you thought it couldn't be anymore corrupt in Rotterdam, we have this.  Jasenski should be thrown out of office.  Not only are the REMS mismanaged, they have now resorted to thugery.

HEY DVOR - IT'S A BANANA REPUBLIC!  You might want to go back over your poly-sci books as a refresher, or maybe Jasenski needs a lesson in civics.

Welcome to Schenectady County.

James McPartlon, vice president of Mohawk, sent a letter to Town Supervisor Francis Del Gallo in the wake of the original e-mail to rebut information contained within it.

In McPartlon’s letter, he refers to the “widely circulated e-mail” that said “a ‘no’ vote doesn’t mean the town hands over the ambulance service to Mohawk Ambulance, because the Town of Rotterdam has no statutory authority to do so.”

McPartlon said that statement isn’t true because the Town Board can choose whomever they wish to provide EMS service for Rotterdam.

So Jasenski is lying to the rotterdam town board on top of threatening the town??????

The 10 cents per thousand is intended to finance the purchase of new ambulances --- one each year over
a four year period.

You really have to STOP lying about what revenue from the tax district will be spent on.   Not one penny
of the revenue is earmarked to pay for salaries.

Kevin,

I am certain that there are many NNTP signs that remain available if and when the decision is made to deploy them in opposition to the
creation of a new tax district, be it in the Town of Rotterdam or anywhere in the Capital District region.

As to the future of the NNTP, it is my hope that the Republican party committees in Schenectady County and the Town of Rotterdam set
aside past differences and embrace all who are willing to work together to restore honor, integrity and service to public office.  But, if that
doesn't occur, I am confident that both the Republicans and Democrats will face challenges in 2011 by independent candidates.  There
are several respected individuals who have expressed interest in running for elected office next fall.  I stand ready to provide guidance,
carry petitions, and campaign door to door as I have done for many other principled conservative candidates if I am asked.  I believe
that the efforts of several of these candidates will be successful regardless of issued party endorsements.

This latest development reported by the Spotlight News is a testament to the need for change.  The arrogance, sense of entitlement
and the willingness by some in elected office to exert their influence and power to suppress opposition and silence the voices of the
residents is unacceptable and should never be tolerated by the voters.
