If a majority of the property owners vote FOR a tax district to support Rotterdam Emergency Medical Services ... then I think we should give the the people what they want and are willing to
pay for.

Let's put the matter up for a vote .. and decide it one way or the other,

And make announcements until EVERY resident is aware of the vote time and date. Make it on a day other than a holiday, weekend or during a major weather event. Make it accessible in more than one location, and make ALL locations handicapped accessible (as per law).  Also, give EACH person that pays tax on that property a voice (husband/wife/etc).

Betcha it doesn't happen

I believe that only the person or persons whose name appears on the tax rolls as the owner can
actually vote on such a referendum.

Then why would they only allow one vote per property when this was last proposed?  Husband and wife are commonly listed on tax rolls - as well as other family members, mortgage companies, etc.

If the property is in the husband's name .. as many are .. then only he can vote.   That is what
I meant to say.     Not sure about mortgage companies ... but if a business owns the property ..
they get one vote as well.

Ron doesn't know the answers - he's repeating rumors or things he's "heard".  He'll just tell you to call - or better, wait for the announcement.  Don't get too full on Turkey and don't plan on shopping Black Friday if you plan on voting, I hear Friday may be a date they're considering for the "vote".

There must be at least 60 days between the time that the Town Board votes the resolution for the
referendum and the actual referenum.   The next meeting of the Town Board is October 5 -- 60
days from that would put the vote at Dec 4 at the earliest.    The next Town Board meeting after
October 5 is on October 13 .. if they vote the resolution then .. the earliest date would be Dec 12.

MaryMagdalene is just jealous that I DO lnow more about the issue than he/she
does.

cheats......

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!

By going to these 'poor' elderly and even asking for one thin dime in the name of 'fear' is despicable!!! You people should be locked up for lying and trying to scare the sh!t out of the elderly! THEY ARE ALREADY PAYING FOR THIS SERVICE THROUGH THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY/MEDICARE!!! Don't you get it DVR???? And now you want them to pay even more in a time when fees and taxes are going up daily??? WTH is the matter with you?

And as far as the people who have private insurance......WE ALREADY ARE PAYING FOR THE SERVICE WITH OUR INSURANCE PREMIUMS!!!! And you want them to pay MORE???? You are completely NUTS!!! IMHO

We are already paying for REMS out of the Town's General Fund -- about 5cents per thousand -- with the
new tax district this will shift that 5 cents to the new tax district and ask for an additional 5 cents.   If Social
Security and Medicare will pay for the ambulance ride from Mohawk -- it will also pay for it from REMS.

REMS is a local provider -- MANY, MANY people are very happy with the service that REMS provides and
do NOT want to privatize this vital service.   They are WILLING to pay the extra 5 cents per thousand --
because they do NOT trust Mohawk ambulance or any other private business to provide the same great
service that REMS has provided over the years.

I won't publicly characterize or give my opinion on the mental state of those who are opposed to the tax
district -- in particular those  who post on this website.

The fact is that the matter will be put up for a public referendum .. and in a democracy,  I   (and every one
else does) have the right to publicly voice our position on the matter.

You are just annoyed that I and others don't just raise our hands and say "Heil KR" and spout your
"party line".

the REMS doesn't need a taxing district they need to learn to 'live within their means'----that's what a good business/leaders do......as for trust....pathetic
and the leaders lead the sheeple to a TRUST YOUR GOVERNMENT TO TAKE CARE OF YOU mentality.....

REMS needs the taxing district to fund Capital Purchases -- new ambulances --- not to fund its operating
budget.    We pay sewer district and water district taxes to pay for the Capital Improvement -- the sewer or
water pipes.
REMS is a vital service provided BY town residents FOR town residents  -- VOTE YES For the Tax District.
