I noticed that in Kosiur's new TV commercials that he doesn't mention the sex offender law. He's trying to spin his campaign to job growth and restoring NYS.

Now, I know that we've all been paying very special attention to the election that's coming up 1 week from today.  Here's another question though.  How long, if he doesn't get the Assembly position, until Mr. Kosiur is up for re-election on the County Board?

Quoted from 38
Mr. Kosiur has stated that he hopes that many of the sex offenders who currently reside in the exclusions areas will voluntarily relocate, most likely outside of the county.  While I suspect that there may be a few who will leave, the number will be very small as the constitutionality of the law is debated and challenged in court.  There will be limited enforcement of the "Kosiur's Law" initially so that those who voted for the legislation in the Schenectady County Legislature and, indeed, Kosiur himself, can claim that the new law is making a difference, thereby saving face.  An eviction, shortly after the effective date of October 1st, of one of the sex offenders who reside in an exclusion area (most likely located in the Village of Scotia or City of Schenectady) will be executed employing all of the city and county resources available and necessary and at a considerable expense to the taxpayers.  This public eviction will be  publicized by the media and hailed as an undisputable win for the residents of the county.  I project that the issue and those sex offenders who reside in the exclusion areas will largely be forgotten after the November elections for the Schenectady County Legislature.  Legal challenges, brought by those who are displaced from their homes, of the constitutionality of the law and the considerable court ordered financial awards for damages will be all that will remain for the residents of the county.

I see that Mr.Kosiur and his political camp are avoiding the words 'sex offender' while campaigning. I say....bring it up and bring it up loudly!!!! He needs to stand up and take credit for the stupid law and we, the taxpayers are left living by it!!!! So come on here people...let us give credit where credit is due...to good old Mr. Kosiur!!!!

It was announced today that NYSUT (the New York State Union of Teachers) has endorsed Ed Kosiur for the 105th District seat on the NY State Assembly.  It appears that the special interests are, once again, trying to overrule the will of the people.

The liberals on the left are disparaging Mr. Amedore because he, unlike Mr. Kosiur, is a successful businessman.  The LeftyBlogs.com blog site at http://www.upstateblue.com/story/2007/7/18/23352/8628 suggests that the "wealthy" Mr. Amedore is trying to "buy the seat".  They chide George Amedore because he has, "has no political experience or legislative record".  It is that very quality that appeals most to me as a voter and future constituent!
The posting goes on to make the following assertion:  "Ed Kosiur (D), meanwhile, is a strong reformer with years of experience in governmental affairs, working tirelessly to reform Schenectady's sex offender laws, as well as helping to advance paid family leave legislation while serving on the county legislature."   "Reformer"?  "Tirelessly"?  You can't write better comedic material than this!  Folks, on July 31st we must each commit to vote for George Amedore and send Mr. Kosiur, the author of the ill conceived Sex Offender Residency law, back to his plumbing business.

NYSUT Backs Kosiur
by Jay Jochnowitz, State Editor
New York State United Teachers endorsed Democrat Ed Kosiur today in the 105th Assembly District race.

The union, which represents 585,000 educators including more than 2,900 in the district, based the endorsement on Kosiur’s positions against “the unfettered growth of charter schools,” and concerns about private school vouchers and tuition tax credits.

It was in the Times Union on 7/21/07. ALL of the unions are endorsing him. And of course they would...the dem's are great at being the puppets for them! Just look at what happened with the arbitration and the cops! >

The polls are still going, got another call from a survey group wanting to know how I'm going to vote. I also saw the new Amedore add with Tedesco and Farley encouraging us to all vote for Amedore. I think that Kosiur is in real trouble even with the unions endorsing Kosiur. The unions are not as strong as they used to be and sometimes when a union endorses a candidate people will vote the opposite way that the unions want them to.

Kosiur is in trouble for sure! You can tell just with all of the phone polls. The sex offender law is what really put him over the edge. What amazes me is that these people aren't even lawyers and they are passing these laws. What are they thinking? And as far as these sex offenders or any other crime committed...these judges should all have to live 2000 feet from a court house. Criminals can plea bargin, they are let out before they finish their sentence....it's endless. THAT is where the problem is. Not where criminals live, for God's sake. We need tougher laws and they  need to be enforced...plan and simple.

Ya know what I say? If they let a criminal out, especially a repeat criminal, than that judge should be held accountable. The judge is the one putting society at risk.

Sex offender law foolish, needs to be repealed

The law recently enacted by the Schenectady County Legislature has a stated intent of protecting citizens from sexual predators. The law functions much the way that the principle employed by colonial Massachusetts did in banishing the undesirable elements of society by sending them to the hinterlands, what was to later be known as Rhode Island.
The Legislature’s recently passed law does not solve anything; it simply moves a problem from one geographic locale to another. Following its logic, should we anticipate future laws where perpetrators of all crimes can be “managed” by banishing them from densely populated areas? It is indeed unfortunate that those we entrust in government can at times behave so irresponsibly.
The members of the Legislature really ought to know better. This foolish law needs to be repealed and the time and effort expended to achieve an effective, lasting solution for all residents.

Kosuir under fire from GOP for campaign literature
July 24, 2007 at 9:23 pm by Paul Nelson
State Assembly hopeful Ed Kosiur says he doesn’t know, if as Republicans are claiming, that an elderly woman featured in a campaign mailing is a fictitious nursing home patient.

”I didn’t put out that piece of literature,” the Democratic Schenectady County Legislator said Tuesday afternoon when asked about the literature which GOP Schenectady County Chairman Thomas Buchanan says infers the woman is a resident at Glendale Nursing Home that Kosiur fought to protect.

“We in no way said the woman lived at the Glendale Nursing Home,” Kosiur said, adding that the healthcare workers union, 1199 SEIU, is responsible for the glossy.

Kosiur then sought to deflect criticism saying it’s hypocritical of Republicans to take about dirty politics when they are the ones who have been slinging mud in what looks like a horse race between he and political rookie and builder George Amedore Jr.

Voters go to the polls during a special July 31 election for the 105th District seat that opened up when longtime Assemblyman Paul Tonko recently took a job with the Spitzer administration.

Buchanan branded the mailer shameful and said it’s yet another sign that Kosiur is in trouble, an assertion Kosiur denied.

” This is part and parcel of the way Ed Kosiur has run this campaign,” he added. ” I think Ed Kosiur is getting more desperate and he must be concerned he can lose this race.”

Well I sure hope that Ed Kosiur is right about him losing the election. We have enough career politicians already we don't need anymore.

I am certainly not a fan of Buchanan, but at least he stood up to the plate on this one. And I do disagree with Kosiur about the mudslinging....I really don't see that on either side. Actually, all I see or hear are little pot shots at one another. Clearly, the only people who would vote for Kosiur are the ones already in the system of government programs and those who don't mind paying high taxes to support them and the ones who actually think this sex offender law is legal! OR...they are just plain stupid!

Since when is it mudslinging to just point out your opponents voting record. We can't help it if Kosiur's voting record shows that he is constantly voting to raise taxes.

You are absolutely correct-o on this one. But what else could Kosiur and his democratic machine come back with? They have to play the victim and piss and moan that they are being lied about and that the reps are 'mudslinging'. That is what the dems do. That is how they BS the people. The fool the people into thinking that they are the victims of the opposing political party, when in fact they will become victims to the dem's socialist, liberal, paid for by the government, programs!!!

Kosiur don't have a political leg to stand on!!

Try different approach with sex offenders

I am both offended and concerned by acts committed by sex offenders. The legislation passed by the Schenectady County Legislature, without documented evidence from experts in the field, does nothing to ameliorate my concerns, but simply adds to them.
Sex offenders are mentally ill. The problem is not so much where they live (since they are obviously not constrained from traveling wherever they wish) but rather how should these mentally ill be treated and/or confined? A very close analogy would be to insist that those arrested for DWI not be allowed to live within 2,000 feet of any bar. These rules will change neither personal behavior nor results. They simply add a little to the driving distance of the person involved.
So it appears that the sex offender law was designed not to change behavior but simply remove an undesirable element of the population who will be forced to live elsewhere — a sort of NIMBY approach. Send the blokes to the other counties and add to the concentration elsewhere. One need not be too intelligent to see that the final result of this will be these folks will all drown in the Atlantic (Pacific, Indian, etc.) Ocean.
There is a shortcut which would be much less expensive: Drown them now so they need not move. Of course, that may sound a bit callous, but it is the net of such legislative actions we have seen to date.
The Schenectady County board should be encouraged to consider the utter uselessness of its behavior and look for a real solution — fix or constrain the sex offenders. (And do the same with those involved in DWI.)
