I do know for a fact that there are sex offenders living in Rotterdam. I don't actually remember how many, but I do know that the schools sent out memo's to alert the parents. Mohonasen for sure. Not so sure about Schalmont.

And I get your point Cicero, and also wonder if this proposed Sex Offender law will really  make that much of a differnence. The only thing it really does is move them from on municipality to another. Kind of like 'spreading the wealth' except in this case, it is more like 'spreading the sh**'.

I also would make note, that this arrogant county legislature, should have discussed such matters with the surrounding counties that this would be effecting. This was never done. Again, some of these counties do not have a police presence. They should have been given the opportunity to share their concerns and possibly adopt an alternative plan for their own town.

I think that everyone just wanted to put the brakes on so this issue could have been thought out and implemented correctly. It was clearly a knee jerk, political ploy that backfired miserably...and deservingly so.

So now, we have upset the hornets nest, and queen bee Suzie Savage and her drones are out on a political seek and destroy mission. And I agree also Cicero...that unless these supervisors come up with a better alternative plan, it just may cost them their election if they are running this year.

I certainly hope they have been working at this resolve daily and realize the consequenses of the deadly Suzie Savage sting!!!!

That's interesting------- we can build homes for the disabled and elderly to 'warehouse' them.....

but, we cant build a warehouse for sex offenders?????

hhhmmmm

convenience or ignorance???

what is a sex offender??---mentally disabled? integrity challenged? sinner? danger? a whole new breed?

Why is everyone so afraid of Savage?  I'll grant she is arrogant and self-aggrandizing.  No one with whom I have spoken, however, holds her in high regard.  She can (and should) be voted out of power.  While I admit that she appears to be cunning as a fox, her actions, when exposed by a watchful public and an inquisitive media, will ultimately be her undoing.

I hope that your are right here. And I must agree, that there isn't anyone I meet that thinks she is doing a great job in her present position. But ya know what? When Hillary was running for Senator of NYS...the political grapevine concensus said they would never vote for her and that she would never be elected. Well not only was she elected, but it was by a landslide!

I don't know exactly how you looked at this map. senders, but did you happen to look at downtown Schenectady?  Then I hope that this reaction was a little tongue in cheek, as it doesn't look like there's a 5 city block area in the city of Schenectady that doesn't have something to do with at LEAST one sex offendor.  Luckily the part of the law that would have pushed these people into our backyards has been put to rest, however, seeing how many people are brought into the cit, how much more MFRH do you think will be put up in Rotterdam to help house these people?  Is this where the people that aren't seniors that move into the new Curry Rd Shopping Center apartments or the ones over off of Mariaville Road are going to come from?

If you click on those dots it'll tell you the name, address, and what the sex offender was convicted of.

I absolutely agree with  you BK. And perhaps, for today, Duanesburg and Princetown, due to their demographics, sex offender may not flee there 'right now'. But if these laws end up on the books, these towns will have to think and rethink their future new developments. All to 'not' accomadate sex offenders. And all due to a law that was forced upon them.

And with all of the MFH springing up from the ground in Rotterdam, will the town have to rethink these new developments? I feel bad(not really) for the situation the city is in with the influx of sex offenders. But ya know what I always say...deal with it! The freaking city in falling down around State Street and they really don't give a damn. They are all so SELF absorbed in Metroplex and the mayors raise and that is all they see. My question would be, 'how long have these sex offenders been residing in the city'? Did you all JUST take notice? And now they want to push their garbage on us! I DON'T THINK SO!

Not to mention that this whole 2000' thing is really NOT going to keep our kids any safer. Like we have said a million times...they just can't SLEEP or RENT or OWN anything within 2000' of where children gather. So what will they do during their waking hours? And where will they work? What if their job is withing that 2000' circle? Do they quit their job?

This is clearly an ineffective law with an ineffective plan thought up by ineffective county legislatures with ineffective minds! They should scrap the entire thing and start over.......

In reference to all the posts from yesterday and today.  Everyone has valid concerns and gripes about this.  As for the nimby mentality that I am being accused of....it seems we, all the towns, as well as the city, suffer from this equally.  Hence the law. Schenectady doesn't want them and I don't blame them either.  As for the committee, I would hope it is a combined effort, not the effort of "the supervisors".  Speaking for myself, I am not any more of an expert then the few legislators who came up with this and I don't intend to become one.  I want to HEAR from the experts and hope they can offer some sensible answers to the problem.  Maybe in this case no law is better then enacting a faulty one.

Nobody wants the sex offenders living near them, it's human nature. I use the web site  Family Watch Dog and see where the sex offenders live and if any are around my house when my grandkids are visiting me I keep a real close watch over them.

The sex offenders have resided in the City of Schenectady for some time.  They did not first appear in June 2007.  The question of where these predators should reside has been an issue that is/has been receiving attention across our nation for years.  The actions taken by our elected "leaders" in the Schenectady County were timed by the majority party to coincide with Kosiur's run for the Assembly.  He has been on the legislature since 2003.  If the safety of our children is really a primary concern of his, wouldn't he have acted sooner?  Further, why did the propositions bear Kosiur's name when Suhrada had proposed legislation of his own at an earlier point in time?

The Democratic majority in the Legislature is playing political games wherein party is placed before policy.  The residents of the county, however, saw the "Emperor's New Clothes" for what they were.  Kosiur's laws were passed without due diligence being performed and without regard to the input and concerns of local elected leaders, law enforcement, and the public.

Zim, I've been aware of where all the sex offenders have been living for at least 10 years. We were babysitting 4 of our grand kids, 3 girls and 1 boy so we wanted to know how close any of the sex offenders were to us. We stopped babysitting every day 3 years ago and now just watch the grand kids on weekends so we don't check the site as often. The residents spoke loud and clear back on July 31. We need to replace all on the County Council but a few select good members and we all know who they are. Let's all vote the same way we did in July and send another message as the Dems haven't really paid any attention to us yet.

As for the nimby mentality that I am being accused of..

Well Rene, you have joined the ranks of the majority. I will proudly stand up and call myself a NIMBY! Of course I don't want a sex offender in my back yard. They are clearly the bottom feeders of society!

I can't help the fact that Schenectady has welcomed them for all of these years and I'm proud that the surrounding communities don't!!! The city should have thought about this years ago...not only during an election year, which proved that move to fail miserably.

And if this revised law does get passed, it may still encorage a NYCLU lawsuit. The county legislature has placed the unwarrented burden on the supervisors of each township and the specialists. Well, in my opinion, there is NO FIXING this rediculous law.

My suggestion would be that all supervisors and specialist alike, encourage ALL elected officials to rescind the law and COLLECTIVELY (bipartisanship) address our state elected officials and push to enforce Jessica's Law!  Longer incararation and tracking devices! And that would be my suggestion and my ONLY suggestion regarding 'Eddy Kosiur's Sex Offender Law' if I were on this committee. I would NOT be a part of this rediculous existing one. It is flawed law and CAN NOT be fixed!!
