Mr. March has come up with a great solution. Get Tommy Lasorda, former star with the Schenectady Blue Jays and LA Dodgers to speak at a baseball fundraiser. Many of the former greats are now in Florida. Charge $200 a plate and split it with Sons. He would show up.
Look to private donations not more taxpayer largess. We are tapped out with Metrograft and the lastest dingbat ideas from the County DEMS and Sal. The working together team?

I can not believe that here we are in the middle of an almost depression, with thousands of jobs lost daily, and people are actually thinking about a baseball field. COME ON! We should go into a full depression to get our priorities straight.

I realize your feeling with this, but I think that the Little League is important to keep the children active, especially considering how all the MFRH keeps going in, giving our children less and less room to play / exercise. I think that the Little League, as well as other sporting groups would be a good thing to promote for the children. Maybe the Little League could use some land at one of the schools. Is there any room that can be made at any school in Rotterdam? Anybody own a field that they're willing to donate?
The thing that I'm looking at is to NOT involve tax money...unlike the hiking trail that we get the triple whammy as town residents (town, county & federal taxes all going up for that).
...and I don't think Judy Dagostino ever wants the words Little League spoken within miles of here anymore.
Proceed on Palmer Street off of Highbridge Road, left onto East Palmer Avenue, next left onto Boxwood Drive. Boxwood Park has a full basketball court, pavilion and new playground equipment.

Eunice O. Esposito Park (Formerly Ft. Hunter Park):
From Curry Road (near St. Gabriel's Church), turn onto Fayette Drive. The entrance to the park will be on your left. The Eunice O. Esposito Park has received major renovations to provide for a safe environment and a more user friendly park. The park has an expanded parking lot, two tennis courts, new playground equipment, a pavilion, full court basketball court, bocce ball courts that are handicap accessible. This park is also the "home" of the Rotterdam Girls Softball League with four separate fields.
Fiero Park:
Located on the outskirts of Coldbrook near the end of Fiero Avenue heading east from Altamont Avenue. Fiero Park has a half basketball court, a volleyball court, pavilion and new playground equipment.
Juracka Park:
Located in Colonial Manor at the end of Juracka Parkway, Juracka Park has a half basketball court, a tennis court, two volleyball courts, new playground equipment and pavilion.
Kiwanis Park:
Route 5 S, Rotterdam, Boat launch and picnic area.
Leonard C. White Park:
Located in Carman section of Rotterdam, off of Hamburg Street, the park is located between the corners of First and Fourth Avenue. Leonard C. White Park has a full basketball court, new playground equipment and pavilion. This park is also the "home" of Carman Little League that has four separate baseball fields.
Memorial Park:
Located on Curry Road across from Sunrise Boulevard and extends to Poutre Avenue and Broadway, Memorial Park has a full basketball court and new playground equipment. Memorial Park is also "home" to Rotterdam Little League and Rotterdam Babe Ruth with three separate baseball fields.
Pansy Park:
Located on Pansy Street at the end of Fern Avenue next to the entrance of the former WMHT. Pansy Park has a new play area.
Plotter Kill Nature Preserve:
Located in Rotterdam, has three major waterfalls, several cascades, a magnificent gorge, and hiking trails.
Getting There: Plotter Kill Nature Preserve has two parking areas - one on Mariaville Road and the other on Coplon Road. Both are accessible via Mariaville Road, Route 159.
Rotterdam Junction, Woestina Park:
Route 5S to Rotterdam Junction, take a right on Putnam Street, to the end of Putnam Street is the park. Woestina Park has a half basketball court, new playground equipment. Woestina Park is also "home" to Rotterdam Little League that has three separate baseball fields.

Thousand of jobs lost in THIS County. While the Gazetto keeps cheering about "the arts' and how great Proctor's is doing? {when they can't sell out anything-bring back Rent for the 10th time?}
Have a fundraiser. Tommy loves Schenectady and Sons. More parks does not mean more usage. End busing and have kids walk again. Like we did back in the day {even home for lunch that Mama and not the State provided}. Do more with less-NEW CONCEPT. Now with have to provide a Lumpy's Day Camp on the taxpayers dime?

As with anything ( you are right ) if not taken care of people will stay away, but if you offer more they will come....Why is it Rotterdam doesnt take pride in anything !! Lots of talk but no action. Dont you get sick and tired of talking about things...Run Down..high taxes and a lot of talk

I know for a fact that this park is not in the condition that is described. It may have a tennis court surface, but the net is non existent, the basketball court is in terrible need of repair, and the "new" playground equipment was new, 20 years ago. It is also not a place to send kids because it is a haven for drug deals and other questionable activity.
The original post was in reference to a new Little League park. Someone mentioned the Woestina field, RLL has not used that field in at least 3 years. The fields that RLL uses are on Princetown Road behind the Republican Club and the main field on Broadway. These fields are useable, but are in serious need of repair. Broken fences, broken scoreboards, parking lot is terrible, bleachers in need of replacement, No lighting, the list goes on and on. Broadway is in the best condition but does still need work. The town doesn't care because it is just kids. The "old foagies" would rather complain about the kids getting into trouble rather than helping to provide a place where they can play safely and stay out of trouble.
